If you tuned in to any of Kansas City's country music stations Thursday, you did not hear the Dixie Chicks.
Several stations in town have dumped the group's music over the lead singer's controversial comments about President Bush, KMBC's Jeremy Hubbard reported.
At a concert in London earlier this week, Natalie Maines, the band's lead singer said, " Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."
The Guardian, a London paper that reported the comment, said Maines' remark got the crowd cheering.
Many local residents, however, were not excited about the singer's point of view.
"If you guys play another Dixie Chicks song, we'll never listen to you again," one country music fan told KBEQ.
The station logged nearly 700 phone calls Thursday, denouncing Maines' comment.
The reactions from listeners were enough for programmers at all three big Kansas City country radio stations to pull the Dixie Chicks from their playlists, Hubbard reported.
But some Dixie Chicks fans didn't appreciate the ban.
"There are some artists that I like that have said things I don't agree with, but it doesn't stop me from listening to their music," said radio listener Shawn Peterson.
One radio station is even taking the boycott a step further.
Friday morning, one local station will take the ban a step further. They have invited their listeners to come to the station's studios and dump their Dixie Chicks CDs in a big trash can, Hubbard said.
The Dixie Chicks are scheduled to play to a sold out crowd in Kansas City next month.

I always thought that song about killing Earl was a countrified feminist anti-male song. Could men do a song about killing Earlene and get away with it? Not bloody likely.

Unfortunately, I already have tickets to see these Texas Sluts. You could try selling them on ebay. Just be aware that 1 franc = 0.163311 U.S. dollars, and the franc is no longer legal tender.

"You could try selling them on ebay. Just be aware that 1 franc = 0.163311 U.S. dollars, and the franc is no longer legal tender." LOL. You can find a U.S. buyer easily. For what it's worth, I put some concert tickets up on eBay for a friend -- 24 hours before the show -- and they sold. This friend lives in D.C. and he met a guy at a bookstore where they completed the transaction (cash for tickets).
If you're hellbent on not going, you'd be surprised how much some folks are willing to spend for tickets online.
Good luck.

Many years go I remember smirking when a friend mentioned how good Patsy Cline was. I observed "how can a country-western singer be that good". I had to eat my words and am now trying to convert my country-music hating English fiancee over to Patsy.

Oh no, that is terrible news about FM. Sheryl just won't cut it.
O'Reilly had Farrell on last night. He was articulate, but when O'Reilly said that he respected Farrell's point of view, Farrell refused to say he respected any other point of view.

Go get your money back! Make a statement that you are getting a refund because you refuse to support someone who bad-mouths our leader and our country on foreign soil.
You can get refunds for movie theater tickets - even after the show starts - why couldn't you get one for this concert?

I heard the tall one is very angry at the fat one because of her comment. Then she should come out with her own comments disowning the other one's as not representative of the Dixie Chicks as a whole.

Like I said it is a conservative movement... if you don't agree with the tactics , well we are still going in without you.
That is the problem with the old conservative movement, passivity yeilds no results. We are tired of being pushed around by the liberals who are way to powerful in their anti- American ,evil ways. This power was handed to them hand over fist ,because past conservatives would run from the fight. I suppose you think the founding fathers, and those that fought for America in the early days were way to harsh in their treatment of the tories.
BTW.. the liberals used these methods to great sucess and now it is our turn ... I am proud of the way my fellow conservatives have finally made a stand.
I believe freerepublic is called a grass roots conservatve forum for conservative activists. We are doing what activists do. If you want to start your own boycott of Gas .. more power to you. Drain your tank and carry on, or look for another wagon. Makes no difference to me... I still say NO to anti- American ,male bashing ,hippies who have no respect.

They give "Chick" a bad name.
Cheers, CC :p

I have an idea for an amazing coup that the two original "chicks" could pull off. Dump Maines and hire Kelly Clarkson (American Idol). She can certainly sing the music. This would help redeem them politically and give them some serious buzz in the industry and with the public.
I still wouldn't listen. I'd just like to see the wrath of the public take out a "star", and quickly. That might shut-up a lot of these ingrats.

Are you a Vet? Just curious."

Oh I see, you are ready to fight with a conservative who dis-agrees with you... but not male bahing , anti - American liberals.
Right... Makes alot of sense. Why sir, you are no conservative at all are you? you are one p> BTW Not a vet beacuse I am a 35 year old woman..So I will do the next best thing I can do. Support any all people who support and fight for this country. Mostly the President of the United States of America. I do not take kindly to dis respect of any military person, Including GW.
No victory over an anti- americans is too little for me. I said we are going with out you. This is a no - spin zone. Pay attention.

Thanks for the link.
This one made me laugh:
"...While Free Republic is not edited or censored, it does reserve the right to remove any postings that are considered inappropriate...."
Mind you, I'm not criticizing the practice but, I have to wonder just what would fit the definition of "edited or censored"? ;-)
(I suppose if it was "edited," we'd never have seen the first uses of 'series' and 'hugh'.)

Not trying to fight, you are the one who got testy. I know a lot of female vets both younger and older than you. I fully support George W. Bush and our military. He could care less about Natty. She's just another product of the entertainment machine with no substance at all. I do not find activism silly, just all the attention the chicks are getting. When the bullets are flying don't pay attention to the gnats.
