Howdy, neighbors.
I won't be around this weekend, but I did want to provide some information. There was at least one nice family doing the American flag, support the troops, thing on March 8, 2003. I walked through at around 2:30, by that time, most everyone had gone except the family and a few juvenile delinquents (on both sides of the issue). Don't wait for a big group as Old Worthington is a great place to spend a few hours and even the peace folks will be "civilized."
I spoke to a neighbor who was walking to the demonstration earlier in the day. Even if much of the anti-war crowd does not really believe in their own cause anymore, they sure do like to get together.
If you are not from the immediate area, there are about five places to eat/drink in the block south of the 161/High Street intersection. Graeter's ice cream is fantastic. If you have lunch at the french bakery, read the articles on the wall about the owners paying to send an old GI back to visit Normandy before saying anything unkind about their country.

PRO-AM OH:
Three cheers from South Street. Bravo to those who have organized this event.
If family schedule permits I will most definitely make an appearance. It's time to counter the many One People/World Peace signs that have popped up in Olde Worthington. Let's let the Lefties in the 'hood hear from the silent majority.

Don't forget to drop by Montana Mills (South Street and High) for a slice of bread and a cup of excellent Joe to warm up. The folks at La Chatelaine (the French bistro on High Street) are very nice, but the MM bread is hearty American style and you're likely to find a kindred spirit working behind the counter or a Philippine baker working in the kitchen who really appreciates the freedom and opportunity that we take for granted here in the good old U.S. of A.
God bless you all and pray for warmer weather.

Where is Worthington? near Columbus?
Yes, Worthington is a northern suburb of Columbus. It is roughly at the intersection of US 23 and I-270. (The northern interesection, not the southern, i.e. US 23 runs north and south thru Columbus and I-270 is a loop.) State Highway 161 interesects High Street around 2 miles south of I-270.
Some nice places to eat after all the festivities ...
Old Bag of Nails - kind of a pub just south of the designated location. There is a couple of other quaint places in the historic area right in that area About 2 miles north (just north of I-270) is the Crosswoods which is a collection of nice restaurants and an IMAX theatre ... Dick Clarks (Food is average, but entertaining), Champp's (sports grill), J Alexander is a steak place I've heard is good, but I've never been there. Ruth Crists - very expensive and no I've never been there, Bob Evans, Casa Fiesta (Mexican), Red Robin (think Chucke Cheese with a big red bird).
One thing to keep in mind, is that is very little parking near this area. There is a high school about a mile west on 161. The crosswoods area mentioned above is about 3 miles north and there is plenty of parking there. There is another area called the Worthington Mall that has parking and a few small shops and restaurants. This is about 1-2 miles north of the designated area along High Street. If you wish to visit the Ohio State Campus, just follow High Street south about 5 miles. Hope this helps and welcome to Columbus.

Actually there is more parking than meets the eye. On street parking is permitted throughout the neighborhood and will easily accommodate any likely turnout. Public parking is available in a medium-size lot behind the Worthington Inn, which is located at the corner of High Street and New England Street, and at a quite substantial lot on the grounds of Worthington United Methodist Church on the east side of High Street between New England and South Streets The site of the rally is one block north of New England Street. Additional parking can be found at the Olde Worthington Library on Hartford Street and Stafford, which is one block northeast of the Village Green.
The Old Bag of Nails pub is a very popular place and has a terrific selection of fine malt beverages on draught. It tends to the smoky, however, and I would recommend the laid back Irish pub P.K. Ryans right across the street for those, like me, who don't care to breath second hand smoke. And, it's almost St. Patrick's Day as well, so it would be most seasonally appropriate.
For those fellow Warriors of the Gael out there, a nice shop called Celtic Corner sits almost next door to the OBoN pub. You can stock up on your St. Paddy's paraphernalia while you are in the neighborhood.

It's Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. I have been there. Spent $62.00 of the company's dime. The steak wasn't all that great, but the plate was dang hot. They cook the steak in a 1500 degree oven and then serve it on a 500 degree plate. When the waitress says, "don't touch the plate; it's very hot." Don't touch the plate because it IS very hot.

Probably won't make it to Columbus. There will be a rally closer to home in
Moundsville, WV, so if I rally anywhere, it will be there.
