[history]
Ten songs into the Pretenders' Saturday show at the Warfield, singer- guitarist Chrissie Hynde pithily summed up her group's enduring appeal and, in the process, the appeal of rock music as a whole.
"I think our band represents all the great losers of the world," she told a cheering sold-out crowd. "Because it's all about the losing." With that, she handed off her guitar, grabbed the microphone and led the Pretenders into the power ballad/anti-anthem "The Losing," off their 2002 album, "Loose Screw."

This is a great reason for Rush to ax the opening bumper. Why? It's a great bumper. And it's a known fact that it pisses her off every time he rolls it. A while back she tried to force him to stop using, but evidently her lawyers must have concluded she didn't have the power ...

When you are an aging woman "rock star" who has spent twenty years being a coked up, drunken, pass-around slut like Hynde, you are going to tend to say some pretty silly, juvenile things from time to time. Cut her a break. I like her music. Nobody cares what she says.

...she hopes the United States loses if it goes to war with Iraq "Bring it on! Give us what we deserve!"As Mick Jagger said, "Look at that stupid girl".

Plus, she said her parents listened to Rush.

That's actually the British version of "The Bird." TWO fingers, but the same sentiment.

If being a vegan makes you as stupid as Hynde, hand me that drumstick please (and I don't mean the kind you make music with).

Great song! But the Patty Hearst reference dates it. Too, the Thompson is far too elegant a piece of machinery for 21st century warfare. Kind of like entering a Duesenberg in NASCAR...

As far as Rush not having "any" trouble, didn't Andy Williams stop him from using Born Free with his EcoWacko pieces? But regardless, I say DUMP the Pretenders tune. Soon enough those liceballs will whine about lost royalties.
I like the idea of Ted Nugent. "Hey Baby"!

"I feel f-- great, how about you?" Hynde hollered after a run through the single "Message of Love." Between songs, the pugnacious Hynde, in a classic black T-shirt and jeans, bantered and battled with the crowd.... She dedicated "You Know Who Your Friends Are" to "all you junkies and f--," gave a shout-out to the late Joe Strummer, opined that she hopes the United States loses if it goes to war with Iraq ("Bring it on! Give us what we deserve!"), and introduced the song "Fools Must Die" with the self-deprecating quip, "I'll show you how it's done."
"I for one find the scabbish, sewer-mouthed, tuna-can scented, crab-infested, tri-sexual Hynde quite the classy, lovely lady, AND true American patriot...."
I believe this to be a New York Times excerpt from Hillary Clinton's "secret" diary...

What did Ray Davies of The Kinks and Jim Kerr of Simple Minds ever see in this trash broad ? My guess would be the lewinsky.

My understanding is, she said she never objected to him playing it, it came through the rumor mill and Rush stopped. Then she said oh no I never said anything against him using it and he resumed using it. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure that is close to what happened.I remember hearing her talk to Rush about it on the air. You're right. (It was someone connected to her management or something that made the objection. She came on his show and said she didn't care, and that her parents were fans.)
That said, I'd like to see him can it now, in light of this. She was probably just trying to be shocking, but what a thing to say. Sheesh.
Tell you what, Chrissie...I'll bet Saddam would be happy to give YOU what YOU deserve. Got a one-way ticket with your name on it. P.S. I hope you don't need your tongue for anything anymore.

Ted Nugent might even p*ss them off more Another good choice. I'd probably use the classic Ted song "Strangelhold."
When I think of the government and Ted Nugent together ... Stormtroopin just seems to come to mind first.

That's not a peace sign, by the way. It's a V-sign, and very rude of her.
To: DaughterOfAnIwoJimaVet
I say we keep it. But MIX it with something else. Ride of the Valkries come to mind.Or Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold" with Miss Hynde's voice "effected". Any freepers handy with CoolEdit?

as in she'd be really ugly if she were a guy.
In an early incarnation of her current group she pretended to be a guy. Hence the name of the band (true story).
