Recently Andrew Cuomo asked me to contribute to a book of essays on the future of the Democratic Party. I thought I would send it to Andrew through OpinionJournal.com. That way he will be able to see your responses pro and con and perhaps include a few of them in the book, too.

I love Peggy! I made the same journey and respect and laud her putting this into words.

Maybe we should entitle this essay,

"Peggy's Progress!"

But who respects a party whose great hope is widespread pain?

WOW! Peggy has nailed it again! I wonder if Andrew Cuomo will actually put this essay in his book!

I am so sick of the Vietname opposition being moral, it was not moral, it was TREASON. The KGB were the backers of the anti-war movement. Had we been allowed to fight truly fight that war, China would not be on the verge of being a superpower and the break of USSR would have happened even faster and earlier. Communists funded, back, supported and directed the Anti-War movement sure the rank and file may have been idiotic kids looking for easy sex and drugs, but the reality is the organizors and funding was all communist. That's reality. Give up on this pipe dream BS that opposition to Vietnam was moral... it was immoral. It lead to what should have been a decisive victory into a senseless meatgrinder.... there was no moral high ground fo the 60s pothead hippies.. just like todays anti-war nonsense. They did nothing but lengthen the war, increase the death count and betray their country.

This is better than Peggy's Essay IMHO.

Bump for a great read!

Regards,

TS

I think she's said that she is essentially pro-choice but I think even some pro-choice people are starting to realize that NARAL is pro-abortion.

It seems there are more 'pro-choicers' every day who are becoming uncomfortable with the number of abortions performed in this country. They're beginning to understand that the pro-abortion mentality has coarsened this country, and they are beginning to accept the idea of restrictions. This is a GREAT thing! Once people stop reflexively thinking of abortion as a 'woman's right' their support for it will continually diminish, though many will want to keep it legal, if only for the so called 'hard cases.'

We may never return to the place where abortion is illegal throughout the country, as many of us believe it SHOULD be, but maybe we'll be able to start people thinking in terms of whether or not it is MORAL, and it WILL be severely restricted.

You want so much to run America and yet you seem not so fond of Americans.

Priceless.

I came from a large Catholic Democratic family. When I went to college I thought being liberal was the "cool" thing to be (nevermind, I didn't have a clue about anything)

Then I got married and had children and started to feel that , just maybe, I was paying a lot in taxes and that money wasn't going anywhere where I noticed.

I became more conservative in the 80's due to Reagan, and then lo and behold the 90's arrived and I watched BJ Clinton come on TV and bite his lip as he lied to us. I abhored this man and couldn't believe that any moral decent individual could let him slide on his immoral behavior.

Then came the Sat morning I turned the TV on and saw some grey haired middle age woman try to steal all the Fla votes for Gore. I thought MY GOD, this is theft for the whole country to see. Certainly this will be stopped.... I watched the debacle for weeks and came to the conclusion that Peggy Noonan did, democrats care nothing for the people all they care about is power. It doesn't matter to them how they get it. At 56 yrs. old I protested downtown in 2000 against the illegal election process and yesterday I went to the Rally For America. I feel our country is finally waking up and more and more people are realizing what frauds and liars these people are.

A wonderful article by a gentlewoman which explains why I am a former Democrat.

I think that we need to realize that the country is turning to the right and doing so rather rapidly. I see this in our church each week. Last Sunday 70 people came forward to accept Jesus and join our church. This is not an unusual number. Several months ago 185 came forward and filled the aisles to overflowing as families decided to change their lives for the better. Many, many people have cone to the realization that the Liberal lifestyle is a dead end that destroys peoples lives sometimes in the aggregate and other times in the particular.

I look forward to a stronger and stronger conservative base each year for many years to come.

The Democrats failed to correct their course back in the Carter days. The communists and the socalists joined forces along with other immoralists and entered the party. As a result the nation hasn't been more polarized since the War Between the States. As I can see it the Democrats seek to polarize the nation even more. Only the corrupt would benefit form such a situation.

WOW! That is ONE great article. She is not only a great writer who can put her ideas across, she's a great AMERICAN who loves this country and clearly states the problem with the democrat party. I love what she says about Clinton as the personification of slick and using up all their oxygen. GREAT! Love you, Peggy. Keep up the good work.

Great essay.

I'm glad she brought up the subject of Rapist Clinton--he personifies everything that's wrong with the DemocRAT Party.

I'm also a former Democrat (gag, it's embarrassing to admit it.....)I was unhappy with the Dims at the time Bubba was first elected--I realized that I didn't agree with a single plank in the RAT convention platform. I also realized that I had nothing in common with the extremists who control the party: FemiNazis, EcoNazi's, union thugs, minority whiners/race-baiters, "Screw the rich" socialists, etc. The sleaziness/lies/nastiness of the Clintinistas pushed me over the edge. I quit the party about 10 eyars ago and have never regretted it.

I finally had enough and quit it last year. I voted as a republican, finally! I always voted republican but now I'm a registered republican. Ah, the air here feels cleaner. The Clinton democrats spoiled it for me.

Sorry, Peggy, but the democrats traded in their soul. It's like you little gun registration gambit. Leaving aside the stupidity of it for a moment, the republicans say to gun owners, "Register yourselves as gun owners and you can carry." That is all concealed carry is.

But the democrats do everything in bad faith. Everything is a conspiracy. They don't know how to make a deal and stick to it. They only know how to lie and deceive. They only feel in control when they are lying. They only feel powerful when they are lying.

They can't build great buildings anymore. They can only tear down what others have built. That is why there message is always tax, tax, tax.

From another former Democrat who once voted for Fat Teddy and will never vote for another Rat!

Once again President GW Bush is showing the leadership that few Presidents have had fighting an enemy that is both clandestine and dangerous. This enemy will go to any ends and any means to destroy this country and his Presidency. This enemy of course is the Communist liberal media and it’s organizers in the HildaRat Party. These are the same people who persuaded his father to allow Saddam Hussein to become the main terrorist supporter in the world. These so called socialists who believed Lenin/Stalin was the enlighten way, will always back a dictator as long as that dictator is either Communist and/or hates America. President GW Bush has come under attack the same as President Reagan when he was throwing their beloved Communism on the trash heap of history. The elites will never forgive him for freeing Eastern Europe from the oppression of Communism.

The DemocRats will stop at nothing to damage this administration so they despartely drag out their balding 70’s organizers with the War Protests. The difference between these protests and the old protests is that these are street people who will attend any protest or riot to destroy property. These are a combination of looney left wing politicos frustrated by being out of power and the usual Anarchists and Commies. We can only hope that the hags don’t start burning their bras again in protest. That could set back the birth rate considerably.

Once PravdABC is able to get some canned footage with the 60’s slogans on prime time TV, they inflate the numbers and importance of these demonstrators. The editorialists exaggerate the numbers and make it into some 60’s movement in a sorry attempt to support their hero, Saddam. Sure, they all start their support phrases that everyone agrees that Saddam is a bad guy, BUT (not as bad as your average Republican) it is a sovereign country or some other knee jerk catch phrase. These are the same editorialists who were explaining that Molosovich was worse than Hitler for killing a few dozen muslim terrorist Yugos? Their hero pours acid on his opposition and had his own son-in-law killed. Course any movement that thought Pol Pot, Mao and Stalin were great thinkers can easily overlook Saddam’s blemishes. We should just listen to the UN and send him another empty proclamation only this time with feeling! No, we should just send him the 101st Airborne Inspection Team.

It is impressive to see this kind of courage occupying the WH once again. He is the leader of all the working and thinking people of this country. The elitists in the media and Hollywood assume since their hard working wealthy parents sent them to an Ivy League boarding school they are progressive (see Communist) thinkers. They just hate themselves and project that hatred on this country. We are the ones who create and we are the ones that have rubbed elbows with GW his entire adult life. He speaks to us who wonder why we have to take care of so many countries that hate us and then listen to these same elitists tear us down. He loves this country the same as we, for the simple reason that it is the greatest gift God has ever given. That is why he is ready to put his job and integrity on the line over and over and over again.

GW and America needs to go into Iraq without delay. We need to take out this evil dictator who is a direct threat to our allies and an indirect or near future threat to our country. This is a message to other rogue countries that we will be ever vigilant of their danger. Iraq is the symbol for every left wing cause that would bring terror to the free world. We cannot have crazy men owning weapons that can kill millions in one attack. Terrorists networks will be broken and the streets will be free from Al-Queda sympathizer celebrations from Baghdad to Berkeley to the DNC. God has given us a leader who has the courage of David to stand up to the Goliath of the liberal elite. Now is the time to sling that fatal rock into the forehead of Saddam and watch his armies run.

Pray for GW and Our Troops

Of course Peggy is pro-life. She grew up as a working-class Irish Catholic, and as the Democrat party betrayed all her basic principles, she gradually switched over.

If you want to see where Peggy stands on the abortion issue, read her brilliant description of the famous prayer breakfast where Mother Teresa confronted clinton/Herod. Peggy was there, and did a beautiful job of telling what it was like to be there.
