A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

 A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

The guy's good, folks!
Thanks, Mixer!
1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me an FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~ Mixer |

Sniff. Thanks!
To: SpookBrat
NO YOU DON'T! I love YOU more!
To: Miss Marple; SpookBrat
Yeah, well...you ought to have your grandson stand by you, arm over your shoulder, reading it.
Then, when he gets to the last line and looks you straight in the face and SMILES at you and you get a bear hug......you are TOTALLY out of control.
To: Brad's Gramma; Miss Marple
"Your angel will always talk to you about me and will teach you the way to come back to me, even though I will always be next to you." And my grandma did! I am nothing without her. What I am today is because of my grandma. I MISS YOU GRANDMA! (She's planting Bluebonnets in heaven now).
To: Brad's Gramma
OMGosh, your grandson will make us all cry now. Hi Grandson! We love your Grandma. She's the best. She is one of my favorite human beings EVER!!!!
To: SpookBrat
I THINK I've regained my composure....for the time being, that is.
He's out in the front with a kite that he created. It's a windy day today....so he has a (do NOT LAUGH!) plastic grocery bag, with the strings attached...and off he's gone.
I'm SO happy you have good memories of your Grandma. That's so important. One of my grandpa's sticks around in my memory, almost daily....and he's been Home for a LONG TIME now.

Now that I have returned from a Time Out, self-imposed, and have caught up to you two, will address this:
"Then, when he gets to the last line and looks you straight in the face and SMILES at you and you get a bear hug......you are TOTALLY out of control."
Can relate after my accident and immediate surgery, I was supposed to be there 2-3 days.
Seeing I was doing well and had help at home (fooled 'em into thinking I was half-bright..:)), they released me after lunch the next day.
My grandson in Columbia is 17, and he called as soon as I reached home to say, "Don't worry, Grandmama. I'll come down to plant your annuals for you!"
He knows my passion for them, and followed up last week with the fact his new girlfriend (family-approved!) will come, too, and they'll do my bidding a full day, including the 40 holly hedge bushes..:))
Decided on latter April, and he threw in "at no charge."
Laughing, because Kyle can eat nonstop!!
Money cannot buy that kind of joy!
He lived nearer for a year, and I transported him several times the 45 miles to Augusta, Georgia, preparing him for serious ear surgery with a specialist there.
We had major flights of fancy and laughter. Last time, instead of comng straight home, on impulse my gypsy mode kicked in. Instead of aiming for the fast food place ahead for a milkshake for him, I abruptly whipped left and said. "Let's explore, Grandmama style!"
I often do that, beating new paths on old turf, and Augusta is full of history, a major river and train center a century or two ago.
We saw beautiful old buildings and interesting places, although he was a tad concerned we were 'lost.' Smiling, I told him I am never lost - just approaching things from a different direction and 'discovering'..:))
Sure enough, we went around and around for half an hour, and despite a number of maze situations and dead end areas, I managed to get back exactly where I had veered off.
It's easy to let God lead you to new wonders, especially when you share them with a fertile mind.....
This is the one who at Parris Island last April begged me to 'PLEASE slow down,' after a mere hour.... snicker, snicker...

It's easy to let God lead you to new wonders, especially when you share them with a fertile mind..... Isn't that the truth???? I feel BLESSED that he lives with us, and I have so much time with him to do just that. We HAVE been known to pull some stunts, ourselves. (shhhh)
And you were NOT lost, were you? I BELIEVE YOU!!!! What a sweetie-pie to come and plant for you. You tell him, from another gramma, how proud I am of him, OK?

This place is so warm and cozy today with all this Grandma talk. Both of mine were special, thanks for helping me to remember that. BTW...what happened to our Cap'n...did he get caught up in the Mardi Gras?

Too Much Heaven is a Christian song...here are lyrics which are a little hard to hear in the song.Too Much Heaven
(Written by Barry Gibb, Maurice Gibb, and Robin Gibb)
(Chorus) Nobody gets too much heaven no more
It's much harder to come by
I'm waiting in line
Nobody shows too much love any more
It's as high as a mountain but harder to climb
Ooo, I'm here to let you know there's a pie beyond the sky
Made of pearly gates precious streets of gold no more painful tears to cry
In my mind we will live in love forever
Peace will always reign and never die
Love is such a beautiful thing
So just take His hand, put your mind at ease
He will take you there, if you just believe
Chorus Ooo, take a look around, there's confusion everywhere
People running wild to the homeless child
And it seems that no one cares
Something's wrong
When will all this hate be over
Time is come to write a different song
Love is such a beautiful thing ooh, yeah
We need to understand with an open mind
We can change the world, just give love a try
Nobody gets too much heaven no more
It's much harder to come by
I'm waiting in line I'm waiting in line what about love
Nobody shows too much love any more
It's as high as a mountain but harder to climb
It's the hardest mountain to climb
Love is such a beautiful thing
So just take His hand
Put your mind at ease
He will take you there if you just believe
Believe
