I don't think Bush has anything to say about it. It will be up to the owners of the property and the City of New York to decide what goes there.

The Federal government doesn't have a place in this decision

This is what they should put there. And like you said, plus one story. They could re-engineer the internal structure to withstand another attack, but the outside should have been indentical. I can't think of a better way to give the finger to the Islamo-nutcases.

I'm sure they will finesse the design. I agree the slices off the boxes need work. This is just a sketch.

The building is 1776 feet tall...very esoteric sense of patriotism.

It's better than the original but it's not my preference. The two glass columns had grown on me, and I liked the park that the plan called for. I like ideas that echo the orginal Twin Towers.

This one makes me think of Emerald City.

No, the cuts into the towers reflect the pain at having lost the people in the first ones. The fact that there are new towers reflects our resolve, and willingness to go forward.

Actually, I have it on good authority that the guy who was drawing up the plans was drunk and couldn't draw straight.

Looks like something Howard Roark might have come up with.

I hope so. Modren (sic) Architecture gives me a pain. Minoru Yamasaki's Twin Towers were among the few exceptions, IMHO.

Did he finally finish his design for the Wynand building? I thought it was going up in Hell's Kitchen.

Let the New York City council know this is unacceptable.

Good. I was rooting for this design. The man was a Polish immigrant, inspired by seeing the Statue of Liberty from his ship. He wanted something immigrants would see on the way in.

He retains the walls from the original WTC, as a sign of America's enduring foundations.

Every year, at 9/11 at 8:51, a clear shaft of light will fall upon the memorial garden.

Go to the web site and look through the detailed plans. It grows on you.

They look incomplete; like some crazed, Islamic giant lopped the tops off with a scimitar.

Just what I was thinking. Maybe the angles are supposed to deflect airplanes.
