MSNBC | 2/26/03 | Wait4Truth

Posted on 02/26/2003 11:43:23 AM PST by Wait4Truth

The President will speak on the subject of Iraq tonight at 7:00 pm EST. I know that MSNBC will be carrying it. If anyone can let us know who else will or will not be carrying the speech, it would be appreciated. Thanks!

There was this in the Washington Compost yesterday...

EXCERPT--

A senior diplomat from another [UN Security] council member said his government had heard a similar message and was told not to anguish over whether to vote for war.

"You are not going to decide whether there is war in Iraq or not," the diplomat said U.S. officials told him. "That decision is ours, and we have already made it. It is already final. The only question now is whether the council will go along with it or not."

Yep, lots has happened on today's date.

I think this is a last chance for those "fence sitters" to jump on board, and for those opposed to change sides. If he can't get enough votes, he'll pull the resolution.

Then, we rock and roll!

FR suddenly seems to have unconstipated itself!

My favorite wish would be a Special Opp raid in Iraq that provided proof of AlQueda in Iraq.

Or have Bush present a big Heinz pickle jar with Osama's head in it.

My wife and I were doing a TV show in East Hampton, which is on the south fork of Long Island, we lived on the North Fork at the time, and it took about 45 minutes to get to the studio.

When we left the house nothing was up.

When we walked into the control room we saw that now famous image of rockets into the sky from CNN and the war had started

The bottom line is the President would not announce the comencment of hostilities from a speech to the Hoover Institute, that would be done from the Oval Office.

You are 100% correct! No way would President Bush ever announce we were starting hostilities from the Hoover Institute or anyplace other than the Oval Office. This speech has been scheduled and was not added to his schedule. There is diplomacy going on right now at the United Nations and he would not pre-empt that negotiation unless we were attacked by Iraq!

As much as I am ready for this war to end what I think needs to be done, my greatest concern is that this is only the beginning... of something very, very big.

Mankind was changed by the events of 911, and I suspect we've not yet seen the most of that change

Heaven help us as we go forward, doing what needs to be done.

I think the President has delayed the war in Iraq for several reasons. First, all our troops/equipment must be in position to fight and finish quickly a strategically planned surgical attack. (We have, after all, been fighting in Afghansitan with a military that was systematically gutted for eight long and miserable years.) Second is his appreciation of Tony Blair's predicament in England. Although I don't think he'll be announcing the start of war tonight, I believe that climate considerations dictate a war very soon.

We have also had an opportunity to discover who are true allies are.

I agree, the fact that the cable channels are preempting their regular programs has to mean something. I will of course listen and if he does say "The liberation of Iraq has begun" I will jump for joy.

But I think we have a few more weeks if not a month. Like someone posted earlier. The 101st does not have its helicopters unpacked. There are alot of units they could go without but not those guys. Their mobility will be essential. Also I mentioned earlier about the inspectors...maybe we won't try and get them out..maybe that would be too much of a give away. Besides we will need them to actually start inspections once we get things stabilized.

I get a little frustrated we have wasted so much time in my opinion. I know those grunts over there are getting antsy...I know what the "hurry up and wait" drill feels like. It ain't pretty.....but they'll "ruck up" when the time comes. I just hope it is soon.

Aside from Loose lips alerts...has anyone heard anything like IRENE ???

Anyone who DOES have loose lips info can freepmail them to me in total confidence. I am just curious.

Otherwise, dropping a HINT here would be good too.

This speech was planned a long time ago. It will NOT be announcing that war has begun. It will not be a heart-stopping speech. Calm down, everyone. In fact, the speech may be a lot of what you have already heard before. I just thought I would alert freepers that their President was going to give a speech that some cable channels were covering. I never meant to start an unwarrented firestorm.
