Teller County, I am pretty sure, went 87% for Bush so we have the issue at hand...and have identified the 13% and have them under watch ;- Great! I saw on the news what happened down there the weekend before last. Maybe you can tell me - is there a fundraiser website somewhere that I can log onto to donate $$ towards buying replacement teargas cartridges and heavier billyclubs for your local police dept? :-) :-)

The problem with recess appointments is that judges could be forced off the bench in the middle of important cases. Lawyers would try to delay cases to get judges perceived as unfriendly off the bench before a case is tried. It would be a nightmare. It is not what the framers of our constitution intended. The best case scenerio is that Democrats are punished so severely at the polls in 2004 for their behavior towards Estrada and other judicial nominees that their members will not even consider filibustering judges despite Daschle, Leahy et al.

"What can they Pass?" I tell you they have enough GALL to pass a MILLION 20 lb GALL STONES! Dr. Frist is just the physician to help pry those GALL STONES out of those damn democrats!

That's a great reason for your screen name! :) (Like you my daughter helped me come up with my FReeper handle.) My grandparents are originally from Oklahoma -- Rush Springs & Chickasha. You leave in a nice part of the country. Lots of good Republicans too.

Lawyers would try to delay cases to get judges perceived as unfriendly off the bench before a case is tried. Would that tactic work if there is a de facto practice of presidents reappointing recess-appointment judges to new terms? Isn't that what happens with (termed) Tax Court and bankruptcy judges today?

Thanx for the Update!

You should subtitle the new live thread, "I'm a Senator, Get Me Out of Here!"

Since the Democrats seem to have talking points for the day, may I suggest the following ...
If you are unfortunate enough to have a Democrat Senator, when you make your friendly daily call to them just ask what's the maximum salary a Hispanic can make and still be considered for a position in the Federal Court system. Mention that Senators Reid, Schumer and others yesterday talked about Estrada making too much money but not talking about how much was too much.
And if anyone gets an answer, let me know!

The letters he read into the record were obviously important enough for that to happen and Durbin's paper is the second item.
I'd say the Repubs are preparing a laundry list of the "obstructionist" record that the Dems are producing for future use. Don't be surprised if 2004 produces banners with Dem crossed out and OBSTRUCTIONIST PARTY as the replacement.
Controlling the "TIME" like Frist did last night is important. He can prepare his party but the other side doesn't know when the Rooster will crow and the Dems have to get their butts to the chamber.
Does anyone know exactly what is in those papers (illegal??) and the Durbin paper??
I'd think Schummer will be chastized today for implying that Estrada may be ??????? way, way, out! Notice Schummer taking all the heat for Hillary. Bet he's pi**ed with the prosspects of being out a job.

I'm not giving up, Salvation, but I called and asked for the Majority Leader's comment line and was transferred to another member of Sen. Frist's staff. I asked her for the comment line and she transferred me to a voice mail.
After a significant period of time, a recording stated, "I'm sorry, but Senator Lott's voice mail is full, we cannot accept your message".
When I call back, I will ensure that my message is handwritten by a staffperson and suggest that they change the message associated with the comment line voice mail to reflect the name of the real Majority Leader of the senate.
