Yep...I think at least one Rat will cave once they sleep on this. There is nothing to gain for Dems now, particulary since Bush said he'll go to the mat for the nominee.

My theory, Chinese torture. Frist dragged them all in at midnight, he's sending a message. The Republicans still have the issue on their side, and Frist likely knows how to coordinate this with Iraq.

Groundhog Day!
Tomorrow will more of the same. Same speakers, same complaints, same rebuttals, same papers, etc. It will make the Democrats seem more and more obstructionist.

Just a sample of what's to come.
To: Torie
Hard to tell without knowing what's going on behind the scenes.
Maybe Frist was giving them a demonstration on what it will be like if they continue.
Maybe they decided to arrest Biden and Schumer for having illegal documents.
Maybe a Republican got sick (remembering that to control this we have to always have 51 present, as deport reminded me).
Maybe there bombing is commencing over Baghdad.
In other words, I have NO idea.

we need some people with balls. I cannot wait to run when I retire in 25 years.
To: PhiKapMom
I will call again tomorrow. I have to buy another phone card though, all for a good cause.
To: Jorge
he's giving it up. The way Sen. Allard is talking now it sounds like this is a publicity stunt to force the liberal media to at least give the filibuster lipservice. It also inflames conservatives. I'm hoping the leadership will continue the unexpected late-night quorum calls on coming nights. I like this style. I'd prefer an all night long session but this is fun, too.
To: freebilly
Oh, I hope you're right. I probably don't understand enough about this type of politics to figure out why Frist stoped and won't pick this up until tomorrow at noon (with the arrival of a major snow storm)
To: deport
I agree with you -- he wanted it known that the RATs would not permit an up or down vote on an Hispanic nominee!

I don't think Frist caved necessarily here; he has not been Lott 2.
I think he stopped for another reason, though I don't know what.

They don't sorry! THere must be a quorum(51 present ---I think) If the Senators aren't there the SAA calls all. As soon as a quorum is reached they may resume business. Then only enough Republican will show up forcing the democrats to be there to make the quorum. POKERYes,and be aware that Democrats cheat at cards...and that kind of dirty and irresponsible playing will cause outrage amongst even the liberal media to decry the democrats to the general thinking public...
To: Anitius Severinus Boethius
I'm going to reserve my outrage for I have faith thet Frist is up to something. I'm betting that there is a lot more to this than we're able to see......
To: freebilly
I think what we just watched was Frist showing the democrats what's in store for them if they continue with this line. It looks like it was a little exercise in power.
I could be totally wrong, but I think this was merely letting the senators know that he knows the rules and will invoke them.
To: Miss Marple
Well great minds think alike in their collective awareness of ignorance. LOL.

I'll bet the Pubbies have determined they are making so much hay on the RATS obstruction that it's to their (the pubbie's) advantage to stretch this out.

Frist just threw in the towel and recessed until noon tomorrow, even though Senators will be continue to make statementsFrist is calling the tune, and the Dems will dance to it. He put them on notice tonight that he will throw everything at them....
