The Rev. E.V. Hill, longtime pastor of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles, died yesterday after a bout with pneumonia and other undisclosed medical problems.
Hill, 69, was hospitalized nearly two weeks ago and was listed in critical condition and in intensive care.
A force in the National Baptist Convention and a speaker at rallies around the country sponsored by Promise Keepers, an evangelical men's ministry, Hill stood out among prominent African American pastors in championing conservative political causes. He had been an adviser to several prominent Republicans including President Reagan.
In 1999, Hill was an unsuccessful candidate for the presidency of the National Baptist Convention, one of the nation's largest African American Christian denominations.

Yes he will be missed. But I think he was losing it in his later years anyway.
Hill supported Henry Lyons, past president of the black Baptist assembly.
Lyons had been convicted of fraud, caught in adultery, had purchased a home with his 'woman' [a home Lyon's wife burned down] and was in jail, before Hill finally decided that Lyons should step down.

I think that one of the greatest sermons ever preached was when Dr. Hill preached at his wife's funeral. I think it was broadcast by "Focus on the Family" several years back. He was not a great black preacher. He was a great preacher.

Amen to that. I still get chills hearing the end of the sermon with Dr. Hill shouting "Trust Me! Trust Me! I'm not Finished Yet! You've got to Trust Me!" through his tears.

Yeah, I once saw/heard him speak live and was blown away. He came to our lily-white church and brought down the house!! He will be missed.

I once heard him preach at a Promise Keepers Rally. He was simply outstanding, a true preacher of The Word
He will be missed here, but joyously welcomed where he now is!

I heard that message - his wife's funeral. I'm a pastor - and I've always looked up to him at that moment as an example of strength, humility, and a fervent love for Jesus. Speaking at the funeral of a spouse has to be one of the toughest things to do in life.
Can't wait to see him someday and talk about it.

I saw his show on TBN several times. He might well be the greatest preacher I've ever seen.

I have a great story about E.V. Hill. I saw him on TV tell the following story:
A Pastor friend of mine had a close friend who was a Biologist. One day when they were at lunch, the Biologist said that after 25 years of study, he had finally come to the conclusion there were 5 major elements which made up the universe. The Biologist listed the elements as follows:
Time
Force
Energy
Space
Matter
The Pastor started laughing and said to the Biologist, you could have saved the 25 years of research by reading the first sentence of the Bible:
In the beginning = time
God = force
created = energy
the Heavens = space
and the Earth = matter
