Eight anthropologists who want to study an ancient skeleton must want until a federal court has heard an appeal of the case by four Northwest tribes that consider the bones sacred.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals' decision, made last week, prevents any study of the 9,300-year-old skeleton known as Kennewick Man, which scientists have sought to examine since 1996.

Man,what is up about these Democrats? And, what is the story on the 9th Circuit court of Appeals. What are they trying to HIDE? Why do they want to keep the bones from being studied?

Why do they want to keep the bones from being studied?

Because allowing the bones to be studied will dispel a lot of dearly-held politically correct myths about the history of North America. My understanding is that "Kennewick Man" is not from one of the indigenous tribes of North America, but is actually of Slavic origin.

It must never, ever, ever be revealed that -- contrary to all prior understanding -- the "white man" was actually here first.

Because, a 9000-year-old skeleton makes the theological argument of the Protestant fundamentalists even more absurd. Actually, the Indians are probably "more right with God."

Don't forget that the Protestant fundamentalists are actually an arm of the Empire. Their job is to control the feeble mind of the average American. Which, after all is said done, is exactly what got Jesus crucified in the first place. Of course, in those days the power structure was from Rome, and the locals were given free rein over philosophical matters and the keeping of the common man in line. But, Jesus had to open his big mouth in the name of the truth, which set off a conspiracy against him.

If the court has a purpose it is probably to keep the truth off of the front pages of the newspapers.

I remember, just a few weeks ago at free Republic, there was a thread that was trying to promote the idea that Tyrannosaurus Rex was only a few thousand years old. The problem with that thread was that too many people could see the absurdity clearly.

Not necessarily "white man" but any gene pool other than what's been entitled "native american".

Turns out that american indians are just as evil and rotten as us euro-invaders - they took it from someone else just like we did and just like their precursors did.

Next time, post about something you know about. Your ignorance of fundamentalist Christianity would make Bill Clinton proud.

My understanding is that "Kennewick Man" is not from one of the indigenous tribes of North America, but is actually of Slavic origin.

Not possible. Slavic peoples are those who speak Slavic languages, one sub-group of the Indo-European languages.

10,000 years or so in the past, there were no speakers of these languges, because they didn't exist yet.

The most it might be possible to say is that Kennewick Man was a member of the group from which the Slavs descended.

But that far in the past, today's ethnic groups have very little relevance. For instance, assuming KW was descended from the ancestors of the Slavs. That same group is also the ancestor of the Germanic peoples, the Celtic peoples, and the Hindus. 10,000 years ago was long before these groups split apart.

So is KW related to Lenin or Gandhi?

Actually, he seems to be most closely related to the Ainu, an ancient people of the Japanese Islands that the Japanese practiced genocidal ethnic cleansing on for millenia.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I'm not all that familiar with the issue, but I posted what I remembered from a discussion about it several years ago.

You can't read very well, can you? It's not the court trying to keep the bones from being studied, its the Nez Perce, Umatilla and Yakama indians that have filed the suit.

Should I assume that you went to Public School?

"the Japanese practiced genocidal ethnic cleansing on for millenia."

Actually, the people now regarded as "Japanese" have only been in these Islands for about 1,600 years.

All you need to know about this is that it is an attack on science. The search for truth has been sacrificed. Not only that, there has been a deliberate coverup by the Corps of Engineers. The entire site where Kennewick Man was found was utterly destroyed by the Corps of Engineers. Any further inquiry or discovery in this area has been rendered impossible. I put this act on par with the Inquisition for its absurdity. No, this is probably worse, because in the modern age we know better.

Guess again. The Courts, the Corps of Engineers and certain local academics have all been complicit in this farce.

Did you expect a different ruling from the 9th? I knew that this would be their ruling as soon as I heard they would be hearing the case.

The Courts, the Corps of Engineers and certain local academics have all been complicit in this farce.

Well, the Courts are implicit in every suit. Where, in the article, does it say that this motion was filed by anyone other than the Indian tribes?

"Attorneys for the Colville, Nez Perce, Umatilla and Yakama tribes recently filed a motion with the court saying that the study would "irreparably harm the tribes' ownership and property interest in the remains" and would result in destruction of the bones "in both the physical and spiritual senses." They filed the motion after U.S. Magistrate John Jelderks in Portland rejected their request to delay the study. Jelderks ruled last August that the scientists could study the remains. "

Other parties being involved in the case doesn't mean that the Tribes didn't file this motion by themselves or for their own reasons. In fact, it should be assumed the motion was filed for their own reasons. The article states this specifically. And, if the article is correct, It was the anthropologists that filed the original suit against the Corps of Engineers, for unspecified reasons. The Indian tribes may have involved themselves into the case as interested parties. In the current ruling (as reported in this article), it appears that the Indians alone are trying to prevent the study, or delay it till they can get their attempt at preventing it before a higher court.
