Manhattanville President Richard Berman said he told Smith "what she's doing is courageous and difficult."

No, its neither. Its sanctimonious, class envious and grand standing. Gee.. you are a ball player, who gives a sh*t what you think about non-sports? Most athletes realize that, not this pretentious primadonna.

Here is what some "conservatives" are advocating for her refusal to face the flag.

I hope she becomes a foul magnet till she is black and blue.

Physical punishment by competetors

... we need Tonya Harding's Husband on this girls case. I am sure we can raise the money for his Bail.

Broken knees by criminals for refusing to face the flag.

She'd make a good "human shield."

Death to those who disagree.

She should be shiped there now as a human shield with a GPS locator locked onto her so she can collect the first bomb!

More death to infidels

If that was Maine Maritime years ago, when I was a kid, Tar and Feathers.

Physical attack, smearing of hot tar and attachment of feathers for refusal to face the flag.

Ok Toni Smith, you think you are too good for the US, then name a better country, and move there.

If you disagree, you should leave.

GTFO!!!

Ordered to leave.

The girl is wrong, she has a right to be or none of us do. The people did the right thing by booing her and I applaud them. The people who made the above suggestions make conservatives look like clowns.

Here's an idea: during the game, sneak into the lockerroom and steal her street clothes. Leave behind only a burkha.

The wisdom of the saying, "Children should be seen, and not heard", is apparent in this story. For at that age, they have litttle to anything intelligent to say. Like I tell my son, "You don't know, what you don't know".

It's all just words and opinions. You are on the verge of becoming a thought cop. But on the other hand, conservatives on this forum make conservatives look like clowns every day. This is more of a humor break than anything.

The way the WOD and C vs E threads break into flame wars really makes us look like clowns. I've often said democrats make strange bedfellows but the FR has show me the same with us.

...according to her profile she's a lobster-eating sociology major, whose favorite movie is Days of Thunder.

She's so . . . . deep.

Bizarre observation. Pointing out what people actually say is being a thought cop? We disagree on that.

Shot this off to Dear Richard at the college. Will probably mean nothing but at least I got it off my chest....

Richard, This email is in regards to Ms. Toni Smith.
The young lady basket ball player you find courageous
for turning her back on the flag during the playing of
the National Anthem.

There is nothing courageous about Ms. Smith. She lives
in a free country due to the pain and suffering of
countless millions of Americans who died to give each
and every American a right to voice their opinions. To
show disrespect to the symbol of the country in which
she lives and enjoys same is height of hypocrisy. We
have 175,000 soldiers poised to enter into a war with
Iraq and more then likely to face Bio and Chem weapons.
Whether you agree with the Iraq policy or disagree,
every time she turns her back to the flag she turns her
back on those men. You and the likes of her who then
describe that action as courageous knowing same are at
best hypocrites. I will not debate you on the virtues
of why we must take this aggressive approach on Iraq
being your actions as they concern Ms. Smith make me
realize you have already made up your mind.

Rather then teaching your students that it is proper to
disrespect the country in which they live and whose
young men now face the potential loss of life please
teach her to become part of the political group/system
whom she believes can further represent her values and
opinions. Our country is a Republic in which people
have the right to elect and support politicians who
reflect their beliefs. Because the current President
does not she condemns the country. How incredibly
childish...I can only believe that her hypocrisy stems
from cowardly, dangerous ignorance. For you as the
President of the college not to even understand same, a
man of education, is even of greater concern. Ms. Smith
has the right to fight for what she believes is right
but to effectively turn her back on the flag (the
symbol of our nation and whom men in the deserts of the
Mid East face life and death under) if the message does
not agree with her own...and you support that and say
it is courageous? If everyone in this nation took that
approach the union as it exists would be in anarchy and
crumble. If you believe it to be wrong, vote and
protest for change. Use the system which is designed
for such. Do not disrespect the symbol of the
country..the country which allows your voice to be
heard.

If she truly believes the country, the political
systems are wrong and she disagrees with the political
and economic systems designed by our fore-fathers then
what the hell does she stay here and reap the benefits
of education and economic stability for???? This is
Courageous(?). Truly, truly pathetic.

Is anything you say innocent and fair but the things other people say on the verge of actions. You made a cute little list of catagories of types of threats that each person was making. What was that? Someone mentions Tar and Feather and you describe the event in gory details like they are guilty of doing it for making the comment. Well here on the FR thought police are a very bad thing, unless you are a flaming liberal, then thankfully the moderators police their posts and their silly thoughts. They are free to have them, we just don't want to waste FR bandwidth on them. But I digress. What are we talking about anyway.

The girl is a bitch for dissing the flag at a time like this. She has a right to be against the USA just as anyone else here has a right to burn a flag. And the rest of us have just as much right to say what we think even if those thoughts offend your delicate sensitivities.

Which is apparently good,,,As long as she doesn't dare voice them.

As best I can tell, she has been unmolested for her views. I think she should be booted from the team for intimidating people of color in the military and fostering an atmosphere of hate.

Hmmm, very unbiblical.

Bingo

And the rest of us have just as much right to say what we think

Bingo, that's what you said up front, and I agreed with you.

even if those thoughts offend your delicate sensitivities.

I'm not offended. I merely pointed out what people actually said and advocated. Death and other things, knee breaking by hired criminals etc. The bible is very big on those things. Willie wonka was better at figuring that out than some people. LOL
