There had to be an accelerant for the fire to engulf that whole building that fast.
There was an accelerant.....the foam on the stage backdrop.

The San Diego thing is a garbage fire that on an average day would have had about 2 seconds of national coverage. The only thing I see odd today was the Staten Island fire, and I see that as an isolated event. It's pretty clear what happened in Rhode Island.

There was an accelerant.....the foam on the stage backdrop. Not to mention the pyros themselves.

but as I wrote to another poster, we're way, way out on the probability curve.
The fundamental failure is not taking into account whether you normally would have even HEARD of many of these incidents.
And you need pretty precise comparative statistics to say anything at all. In a few areas, these ARE kept (railroad derailments) and when people became convinced a few months ago there were far to many to be a coincidence, the statistics showed the number of derailments was perfectly normal.

It wouldn't be that hard to figure out which bands used pyro, and plant an arsonist in the crowd, or even work as a backstage tech to spice up one of the pyro displays. In this case, there is a much simpler explanation - that the pyro displays caught the acoustic foam on fire, and patrons were slow to evacuate because they thought the fire was part of the show. Until the fire department comes out with an investigation that shows additional, deliberate arson, I'm gonna go with the Occam's Razor take on that tragic event.
If you wanted to destroy America, wouldn't "Great White" make a good target?
I can think of a couple thousand bands that would be a better target than "Great White."

I think the egg crates created the fire. According to a pytrotechnic guy on FOX, a jerb (sp?) could not have started this fire. You can put your hand on a jerb and not get burned.

Once again, had they occured in August 2001, I don't think the Midland TX fire or a trash fire near San Diego would have gotten a mention on the National News, and quite possibly would not have even been posted on on FR. I see your point. When Fox first broke the news, SHep said it was "some type of refinery" and He mentioned not knowing if it was oil. I probably would not have posted had I known it was a garbage dump!
However, it still seems a bit freaky, no?

I agree with you. No building that size should be fully engulfed with that hot of flames in 3 minutes. Something's wrong with that picture.

"Hello...its a garbage dump on fire.." Recycling plant fire. Normal times, wouldn't have made the news at all.

They interviewed an employee of a club they'd played at recently. They used the same pyrotechnics at that club. They didn't get permission and scared the hell out of the club employees. It was a well known club, but I forget the name.
Permission or not, these guys were extremely careless with their pyro show. The pyro was set off and blasted right into the stage covering. It had to set a fire. These nitwits didn't seem to have used any care at all setting things up.

maybe arson...exits were locked??? I've heard nothing about locked exits at the Nightclub fire. Are you thinking of the Chicago club that had the stampede? There, four exits were locked. Or, is there a story about locked exits in the Rhode Island fire now?

Understood. News now reports every high-speed chase or two alarm fire. However, when the news first came through, it was reported that yet another refinery was on fire. You must admit, that would be odd.
