A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....02-19-02....The Queen of Dork

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

The Queen of Dork!

Baby Brad and Heidi

Brad's Gramma
She is first and foremost a child of God. She is a born-again Christian. She is 100% pro-life and 100% pro-Israel. She is also outrageously funny, fiercely loyal to both family and friends, a regular on The Dose and Freeperthon threads and has been affectionately dubbed "THE QUEEN OF DORKS". Here are some things that may surprise you about our very own "Brad's Gramma"
Sewing is my passion. I teach beginning sewing in my home. I believe it's an art that is almost lost. I get GREAT satisfaction out of watching the high school girls working with their creative natures, putting together the "weirdest" fabrics and patterns, making them LOOK right, and WEARING them!!! Some of them have made clothing for their friends both as gifts, and in some cases, to sell them. One girl was making Prom dresses and making a nice profit. What I enjoy most about working with those girls is being able to talk to them about Jesus, their life style choices, and just being there for them. I haven't taken up quilting yet, but it's starting to nag me!
BG was born in the Midwest and moved to California many years ago. Her father served in WWII and a brother served in Viet Nam.
There's other family history, regarding military that I've grown up with, giving me an "in-born" respect for our military. It was a quiet respect in our family, one never questioned.
BG's immediate family was Republican so she comes by her conservatism naturally. She does note that one sibling has " left the fold" since becoming an adult. Every family has one of those!
Family means everything to BG. She was a stay-at-home mom and regrets NONE of it! She and "Gramps" are the proud parents of two Midwest girls and a California boy!
And Now for the Story Behind Her Screen Name, Uncut and Unedited..
We have the cutest kid ever born grandson who is not only the cutest, he's the smartest. He excels in everything he does. He's the first in his class. He can run faster, climb higher, read faster, comprehend more from his reading, do math problems better than even the principal, has won every contest he's ever entered, has been voted Most Likely To Succeed in ALL of his classes in every grade since Kindergarten, has mastered 4 foreign languages, knows how to play the piano, violin, drums, cello and 3 others that slip my mind at the moment, has turned down offers from Hollywood for his acting skills (phew!), has 3 things he's invented that are waiting for the patents to go through (that was in 2nd grade) and has a full scholarship granted from MIT. We've been told he's the first child under 12 to receive that. And of course, worships the ground his Gramma walks on.
And, we defy anyone to dispute that fact.
There is NOT a biased bone in this great Freepers Body!!!!
BG doesn't remember exactly when she became interested, then "obsessed" with politics.
Gramps turned me on to Rush, years ago and the rest is history! I still listen to him, but have grown to REALLY like Hugh Hewitt. I believe Hugh will be giving Rush a run for his money some day soon.
She had heard of FR years ago and lurked off and on, but the night of THE ELECTION is when she really became hooked.
I remember sitting here, with a radio on, FR, Drudge and Real Clear Politics open…obviously, FR was the best. I signed up shortly thereafter. Lawgirl was the Freeper who gave me the nudge I needed to finally post, and I'll bet….she doesn't even remember! She was so gracious and helpful.
Rumor has it that BG has a daughter who also frequents the Dose. You'll often find them having mother daughter spats, which some refer to as "the dork wars". Her "daughter" recently shared a childhood picture of how she was informed of her adoption.

On a serious note Brad's Gramma provides humor and caring all wrapped in one. Here are a few comments by some of her devoted freeper fans:
Brad's Gramma's words always bring cheer or encouragement to those in need, lighthearted silliness leading to tears of laughter, or expressions of love for country and GW which inspire even greater patriotism in the reader. She consistently displays the character of a true friend and foot soldier in life, and is an undeniable Finest in FR. (Nicmarlo)
It's rare to meet and bond with a person so precious in real life much less the internet. Brad's Mamma continues to make me laugh until tears run down my face. Her heart is as big as the Pacific Ocean…reaching out to those in need emotionally and offering unconditional love. She's a truly amazing woman. (homeschool mama)
I first met Brad's Gramma on The Dose and I have been a fan of her's ever since…No matter what is going on, no matter how bad a day it has been, Grammie puts a smile on my face and warms my heart with her great humor and loving heart (Mo1)
It is a pleasure to recognize Brad's Gramma, a devoted Christian, wife, mother, GRANDMOTHER, friend to so many freepers and yes the QUEEN OF DORK.

Brad's Gramma, You ARE one of FR's Finest!

1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar.
2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up.
3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit.
4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it.
5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me an FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

Nope, I didn't make that quilt, but I *have* made lots of incredible quilts. I just went and found that jpg for you because it seemed to go with your graphics today. I've made some quiltins with American flag themes, though. I have a big head about them! Hee hee. Quilting is so American: if the colors don't seem to work, some times you just add another color and then everything comes together.

My sister was a great seamstress but didn't quilt. I kept explaining to her that quilting is even *easier* than most sewing -- lots of forms of quilting are just straight lines, and there's just a few tricks to getting the batting in and the thing flat. She finally just started on her own without a lesson, and she's never looked back. My sister's a much better quilter than me now.

HEY HEY HEY! That stuff is ALL TRUE!!!!!

I understand that! When I said "it takes a lot of love to make a kid that smart," I didn't mean to make him *look* that smart. I meant to make him *be* that smart. A child that smart has to have a real zest for life, and that often comes with a lot of love. So his accomplishments are a tribute to all who surround Brad with love, including you. This is what I meant. :)

Grammie, kidding aside for a second (I know that's gonna be hard) I just wanted to let you know since I have gotten to know you better over the last few weeks, I have seen how caring and loving a person you are. Sometimes we get caught up in all the goofiness, but at the end of the night, you offer words of comfort and prayers for a good day. I truly value our "internet" friendship. You are an amazing person with an uncanny ablitity to make people laugh and bring them from their feelings of sorrow to that of joy. Your words of comfort are sincere and from the heart. And your love for your grandson is completely obvious and for good reason.

I just want to thank you for being you, and for always looking out for me. And thank you for reminding me to say my prayers.

Y'all can start kidding around now.

You could start your morning with two windows open, ATRW, and this one. And end your day with A Day In The Life.

And lose your family. Your house would fall down due to neglect. You'd die of starvation...........

LOL...Speaking of which, I have two starving puppies staring at me. Forgot to feed them today LOL...Back in a bit. Love you Gramma! (and yes, you can eat breakfast too!)

LOL -- I've never done Stack and Wack, it is a little scarey, I'd agree. I'm very very careful with my rotary cutter: I put the safety on right after I use it each time.

Re: "Yeah but, but, but.....there's all of those pieces you cut out over and over and over and over." You can buy pre-washed, hand-dyed squares of cloths of any mixture of hand-dyed colors you want over the internet from ebay *cheap* -- like $5 for 200. So a simple square patch work, maybe integrating a nine-patch pattern, can be had without any cutting at all. There are some tricks to mass-producing triangle squares -- which, when combined with squares, provide one with the ability to do countless patchwork designs. If you found a quilter to show you that trick, then you'd find there's relatively little cutting involved.

Oh, there's a lot of sewing, but that part is so nice. I love the feel of cotton.

I've been doing foundation paper-piecing, and that's easy once someone shows you. I'm a big fan of people just showing people -- I don't think anyone should take an official class to learn to quilt. I've promised my Freeper's Finest FRiend WvNan I'll show her some tricks when she comes visit me for tea some day! :)
