Abortion language clouds what the procedure really is
Regarding "Abortion, legal since 1973, still shapes, divides doctors" (AMNews, Jan. 27): Your recent story on abortionists missed the fundamental argument dividing those who support killing the unborn and those of us who do not.
Only one of the physicians you profiled acknowledged the humanity of the unborn child. This physician, Bernard N. Nathanson, MD, indicated that this is the reason he stopped performing all abortions in 1978.
However, your article presents this indisputable scientific fact of the unborn's humanity as just an opinion of a former abortionist: "He now believes that it takes a baby's life." I challenge your editors to ask of the other doctors exactly what an abortion does, in concrete terms.
Many of those who support abortion will, surprisingly, acknowledge that abortion takes the life of an unborn child. These people are able to rationalize that the convenience of the mother outweighs the value of the life of her child in utero. This same rationalization process allows abortionists and their staff to daily dismember unborn children and consider themselves heroes to women everywhere. However, their own language betrays the real uneasiness they have with their chosen professions.
If they stopped using euphemistic terms including "abortion," "pregnancy termination," "ending pregnancy," "products of conception" and "reproductive freedom" and began to emphasize the humanity of the unborn, the truth of what they are doing may sink into their consciences as it did with Dr. Nathanson. Similarly, if reporters would stick to the facts and avoid these same politically correct euphemisms, more people would be better informed on the issue.

The entire abortion industry is built on a euphamistic house of cards.
Most of liberalism is like that.

These people are able to rationalize that the convenience of the mother outweighs the value of the life of her child in utero. Using language to disguise or minimize the truth is not a tactic used by only one side of the abortion debate.

Only one of the physicians you profiled acknowledged the humanity of the unborn child.
Which is why the pro-abortion argument always fails.
Pro-abortionists attempt to justify their actions by denying that the baby, at whatever stage of development, is human life. However, honest people *know* developing human babies *are* human life.
A question that continues to stump any pro-abortionist I ask is: "Were you not once a 'fetus'?"

Well, it's often for the convenience of someone else besides the Mother. But pro-abortionists won't tell you that, even though their research arm found that 90% of women who were getting abortions were coerced.

The 'acceptance quotient' for the vast majority of Americans falls somewhere between the notions of legal protection for all conceived individual human life and legal protection for partial birth abortion. I was, for too long, somewhere between the two extremes, but the truth offered from persons who dug deeper into the science and issues regarding nascent human life awakened me from my comfortable slumber. The realization that awakened my brain was that with tacit acceptance of in vitro fertilization and then the apparent necessity for some abortion, our society too quickly arrived at acceptance of, no, DEFENSE OF, infanticide.

Beautiful pics and good article. As much as the argument for language goes, I believe the profound problem with most pro-abortion people is that they have sick souls (or empty souls for that matter). After looking at those wonderful pictures, how could anyone "terminate" such a beautiful gift from God?

We need conservatives on the courts so the decision of abortion can be returned to the people.
FREEPers, I have created the ultimate Estrada activism thread. On it you will find ways to contact Senators, newsspapers, radio/tv people, organizations etc. Go there and help support Estrada. Keep the thread bumped until we get him confirmed.

Both women in Roe v Wade and Doe v Bolton lied. Both recanted and repented and are now Pro-Life.
The Supreme Court lied when they said they didn't know when life began. We are still waiting for the Supremes to stop the Newspeak and linguistic gymnastics and do the same.
satan is the Father of Lies.
Abortion is a spiritual battle between good and evil.
Good will triumph when good men do what God commands.
