Illinois has some of the most arcane deer hangun hunting laws in the nation. The cartridge case cannot exceed 1.4" long, must be 30 cal. or larger, and produce at least 500 ft/lbs of energy at the muzzle. That leaves you with a very limited choice of short range handgun cartridges.

If you own a single-shot T/C Contender or Encore, the more powerful and more accurate cartidges for these pistols are illegal. I had to buy an expensive T/C Encore custom barrel chambered in .30 Bellm to stay within the regs. It's good out to 200 yards.

Since nobody uses a pistol to hunt deer (yeah, right!), Mr. Davis would call it a long-range sniper assault pistol and declare it illegal.

... which is why a nationwide ban is being proposed here. They're already banned in Chicago, it's a handgun. But somebody who owns one in, say, Colorado is still enough of a risk that they can't stand to allow such ownership.
