Al-Qaeda had planned attacks on US on Feb 12: Report
Hindustan Times ^ | Feb. 16, 2003 | Press Trust of India

The US has credible intelligence that al Qaeda had an attack or multiple attacks set to begin at some point last week and that members of the Congress could have been the terrorist outfit's likely target, a media report said today.

Counter-terrorism officials were today quoted as saying that they had received a phone tip that members of the United States Congress could have beene targets of assassination attempts by Islamic fundamentalists.

Intelligence reports gathered from human and electronic sources around the world suggested what intelligence officials had suspected for weeks- al Qaeda operatives "Are in the execution phase of some of their operations," a senior US offficial was quoted by 'Time' magazine as saying.

Officials said the intelligence specifically mentioned that the likely targets were New York City and Washington on February 12.

Even though the feared attacks failed to materialise, the anxieties did not subside and inside the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) fears of a devastating attack are as high as they had been in months, particularly because of the possibility that "other tools" or biological and chemical weapons could be used, it said.

The Homeland Security has increased the level of alert.

Telephone calls and e-mails exchanged between several suspected terrorists and intercepted by the US and foreign intelligence agencies pointed to a plot inside the US using nerve gas, poisons or radiological devices.

"It was'nt just chatter," said Republican Senator Pat Roberts, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. "It was a pattern." (more)

A senior Administration official tells the magazine that domestic law-enforcement agencies are investigating a report that Islamic fundamentalists in this country are trying to acquire parts to build an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) abroad-the kind of machine that terrorism experts believe could be deployed to spray chemical agents over populated areas.

The fear is that a UAV assembled overseas could be used against U.S. Assets there, Time says.

At a closed-door briefing Thursday a group of Senators grilled Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge about whether they should clear their families out of the capital in anticipation of an attack.

Ridge counseled them against it, but when pressed by the Senators for the odds of an attack on U.S. Targets at home or abroad in the next several weeks, Ridge, according to one source familiar with the meeting, put the probability at "50 per cent or greater."

In private, Time says White House officials sounded almost resigned to the inevitability of catastrophe. "All we can do," Vice President Dick Cheney told a gathering of top administration officials to discuss bioterrorism, "is ask ourselves, Have we done everything we can to prevent an attack?.."

The U.S. Still doesn't have a "credible and comprehensive system" in place to cope with such attacks, the magazine said.

I think the Rats want another attack, lets be honest, if there is another attack, the economy will sink further down the toilet, the Dems will blame Bush and the sheeple will go along with it. The same goes for the Iraq war.

I think the weather would be a more likely culprit....a cloud of particles wont travel as far if its snowing, or raining...

This 'orange' level, the 'clear-outta-town', the duck tape/plastic hype, the Patriot Act II, the fib alerts, yadda, yadda....is insane. And even IF it was ALL sane and 'logical', then WHY are the POLS, the ONLY ones who are being 'protected'/'moved on'/given solid directions on what they should do?

Are technicolors ONLY for those who sit in DC, who have 'titles'?

This 'orange color' is being reported as a 'mistake', because the 'informant' flunked a polygraph AFTER the 'alert' was raised to orange. DUH....'ooopsie' just doesn't work. 'Oopsie, we have tapes that CLAIM to be from been larder, but we won't verify/investigate, 'cuz we have ALREADY claimed we killed him off.'

OK..... they(govt) have used the term 'chatter', to justify their actions/alerts/anti-Constitutionality.........Teeth chatter, squirrels chatter, dolls chatter, dead bones chatter. Do diaper-heads chatter? More importantly, do POLS chatter? How MUCH of the above 'chattering' has amounted to anything?

I have to say, I supported Bush. BUT, I'm neither a Bush-bot NOR Bush-basher. YET, if all these 'warnings/alerts/technicolors/preparations' had ANY value, WHY are the borders SOOO open/porous....WHY are the 'enemies within' NOT made 'public', and WHY is the govt SOOOO stupid in listening to those of us who ARE able to hear and see what the 'real deal' IS?

What I see NOW, are things that would have NEVER been tolerated if klintler were in charge. WHY are they being 'accepted' just because it's Bush...just because some of 'us' voted for him...just because he's not goresky?

It's insane. Asking questions is 'insane'. And not falling into 'lockstep', makes one feel like they are 'insane'.

>>>>they have a duty to round up every alien from a country with an Islamofascist movement and tell them kindly that they must leave--rapidly

How would you do that to First Ranked? Some were born here, some have been here for 10+/- years. *Citizens*

Thank back to the 70's. I know here, in the TriState area, there was a large infultration of Saudi and ME women coming here just to have their babies. Grabbed the birth certificates and left.

I think that never, in the history of mankind did we face such serious threats, which could lead to Armageddon.

During the cold war, sure the Soviet Union was a threat, but they wanted to win, not destroy the world.

But Saddam, Bin Laden & company are perfectly willing to destroy the world, if they can't rule it -- and the scary part is that they have the means to do it.

The world population is not innoculated against smallpox. It wiped some 300 million in the 20th century alone.
http://www.rapidmicrobiology.com/Books/0198503326.php?UK

What do you think would happen if it is let loose on the world.

The point is, that while some people live in denial, we are facing a real crisis, and as they say "desperate times require desperate measures".

And everything considered, we really hadn't experienced any curtailment of our freedoms -- not unless you are a terrorist coming into the US.

"God sent us all this snow."

Yes... He's thrown a peaceful white "wet blanket" on all their murderous evil plotting and schemeing.

I am afraid you are not wrong.

News just on Debka ( while people may doubt some things they say, but when they report actual events, they are pretty accurate):

"Israel investigating three barrels found in home of senior Hamas operative Nidal Farkhat suspecting they may be filled with poison chemicals for remote-controlled model plane to spray inside Israel.

Earlier Sunday, Farkhat and five other Hamas terrorists were killed in car explosion in Al-Zeitun district of Gaza City, while assembling model aircraft and loading it with explosives."

This sounds like similar plan to what we read in this article about filling UAV-s with poison chemicals and releasing them over major cities.

Any opinion as to *WHY* there are still First Ranked not picked up yet though? I live among the followers of Abdul Rahman Yasin. He preached at the Jersey City Mosque (which has/had a lovely view of the WTC. Some of the "Wanted by the FBI" for the WTC'93 are still here. I've even tried to get them information. It is still sitting here on my desk.

I think you should send it in to the FBI. They are taking things much more seriously these days.

Yep.

Could you imagine the panic that would have happened if this were reported at the same time the threat level increased? The media would have spun this into all out panic. Just look at the sales of duct tape!

Again, I believe the government knows more than they can say, and are doing everything they can to prevent these things from happening. Of course, I also trust the Bush admin. to do what is right.

Did you call them? I suggest trying again.
Just because you may have run into an idiot, who may not have recognized the value of your info, don't give up. I think you probably have important information, from the sound of it.

I also remember that a woman was trying to send in a tip about some of hijackers way before 9-11, that they appeared suspicious, and were meeting in some house at night, which was ignored, they thought she was just a housewife with nothing to do. They found out later, that the lead was important. I think they learned their lesson. For a while they may have been still working on getting their act together, but I would give it another try now.

Did you try sending them an e-mail tip at their website, AND call the field office? I read that at least two reasonable level FBI agents look at every tip sent in via their site. ( the "send in a tip" button on the top left) on the FBI home page.

Yes. Called, online tip submit, got ahold of some lower level intel person who tried to speak for me....yada yada.

I'm actually shocked. Cause you really don't understand the stuff I have. And you are right, I was treated like an idiot by one Special Education FBI Agent.

I even went the length to try to get digital shots of who I was speaking about....I kinda got caught. We won't go there. Sorry, I'm just frustrated.

This is not correct. The alert was not raised on the basis on one informant who failed a polygraph. That has been stressed over and over from Condi Rice to Tom Ridge.

Second, we did not already claim to kill him off.

So you don't have to be upset over things that were framed by a hostile media.
