Tarik Azziz just screwed up...Royally! [Wont Answer E-V-I-L Jew Questions Alert]
Foxnews | Me

Posted on 02/14/2003 11:05:39 AM PST by VaBthang4

Was just watching Vatican Press Conference with Tarik Azziz and a member of the Israeli media stood up and asked a routine question about Iraqi missiles and Tarik Azziz dismissed his question and said it wasnt his purpose to come and answer questions of the Israeli media.

Cat calls and sneers shot out around the room and then a German reporter asked Azziz if he'd answer the same question put forward from a German reporter. Many reporters walked out of the room...Foxnews pulled the plug.

MSNBC didnt.

On September 24, [1943] Alex Easterman, the British representative of the World Jewish Congress, contacted Msgr. William Godfrey, the apostolic delegate in London, to thank him for his good offices in the safe evacuation of about 4,000 Jewish refugees from Croatia to an island in the Adriatic Sea. "I feel sure that efforts of your Grace and of the Holy See have brought about this fortunate result," Easterman wrote.

In his February 18, 1944 letter to Msgr. Amleto Cicognani, the apostolic delegate in Washington, D.C., Rabbi Maurice Perlzweig, the political director of the World Jewish Congress, wrote that "the repeated interventions of the Holy Father on behalf of Jewish Communities in Europe has evoked the profoundest sentiments of appreciation and gratitude from Jews throughout the world." (Actes, X, p. 140).

Jerusalem's Chief Rabbi Herzog worked with the Vatican throughout the war. On February 28, 1944, Herzog wrote: "The people of Israel will never forget what His Holiness and his illustrious delegates, inspired by the eternal principles of religion which form the very foundations of true civilization, are doing for our unfortunate brothers and sisters in this most tragic hour of history, which is living proof of divine Providence in this world." In his April 7 letter to the papal nuncio in Romania, Chief Rabbi Alexander Shafran of Bucharest wrote, "It is not easy for us to find the right words to express the warmth and consolation we experienced because of the concern of the Supreme Pontiff, who offered a large sum to relive the sufferings of deported Jews... The Jews of Romania will never forget these facts of historic importance..."

In the final weeks of the war, Moshe Sharrett, the future Foreign Minister and Prime Minister of Israel sent a report of his meeting with the Pope to the Executive of the Jewish Agency. Sharrett wrote that; "my first duty was to thank him, and through him, the Catholic Church, on behalf of the Jewish public, for all they had done in the various countries to rescue Jews, to save children, and Jews in general."

The tributes slowed after the end of the war, but when Pius died in October, 1958 there were notable eulogies:

Golda Meir, Israel's Foreign Minister, said, "When fearful martyrdom came to our people in the decade of Nazi terror, the voice of the Pope was raised for the victims. The life of our times was enriched by a voice speaking out on the great moral truths above the tumult of daily conflict."

Representatives of the World Jewish Congress, American Jewish Congress, American Jewish Committee, Synagogue Council of America, New York Board of Rabbis, the Anti-Defamation League, Massachusetts Board of Rabbis, Rabbinical Council of America, National Council of Jewish Women, and the Union of American Hebrew Congregations also gracefully eulogized Pope Pius XII. The Chief Rabbis of London, Rome, Jerusalem, France, Egypt, Argentina and many other Jewish newspapers also paid tribute to the late Pope.

Believe it. I saw him do it. I was appalled, as well as the rest of the reporters in the room.

"And shored up his Clintonian/DU Support as well as won over some contrarianite Lozerdopians FReeks from over here."

Weighing in from a live thread - that died out a while ago because it was from this morning's Blix UNvariety show - which has TWO Lozerdopian FReeks on it : this won't backfire on either Iraq OR the Vatican for devolving back to 11th century anti-semitism in public: it's the Bush administration's fault for 'insulting' the Germans and French and Iraqis.

Oh, Lord have mercy! This news is priceless. Thank you so much for letting us know. And God bless that German reporter, whoever he is.

"The folks at ANSWER refused to allow Michael Lerner, an ultra leftie who happens to be Jewish, to speak at one of the rallies this weekend--because he's Jewish."

Hopefully, Lerner 'learned' from this experience.

I am catholic, but I am dismayed that the Church would even consider hosting this jackass. I believe his comments about Jews were more about trying to divide the Arab world with the rest of the world. Regardless, the Church seems to have a history of not speaking up for Jews and for this I am ashamed.

Er, no, Lerner didn't learn (I can dig out the thread or just do a FR search on "Lerner"). Nope, he's going to try to change ANSWER's antisemitism from within. Some people are terminally stupid.

Iraq has been in a war of extermination against the "Zionist entity" since 1947. It joined in attacks on Israel in 1948 and 1967. Iraq has funded terrorist activity against Israel for 50 years.

That doesn't read like a moral condemnation of Pius XII to me. It reads like a judgment that Pius XII's policies were misguided and mistaken, but reasonably so.

Aziz is also smart enough to realize this is bad propaganda. I suspect he did it because he feared Saddam's reaction if he did not.

It's actually a fair, objective evaluation of Pius' almost Gallic spinelessness and moral laxity, as opposed to the snow and the damage control emanating from the pope's apologists on this thread.

If you're saying that the article denies that Pius XII believed that his policies would do the most good, was reasonable in that belief, but was probably mistaken in it, I can only say, that's not what the words seem to me to say.

In addition to what AB said in post 17 -- compare details of different accounts side by side and, most importantly, check the source notes for accuracy and context. If you catch a commentator in a fib, you've just narrowed things down. This is the same advice I've sometimes given to young, idealistic Berkeley kids who are enamored of Chomsky. Clever as he can be, it's so incredibly easy to prove him a liar by this method. Same with the others.

Are you 100% sure of that fact?

The fact that Aziz is a nominal Christian is a well known and established fact.
