This is what Waxman thinks of Estrada
Model Of Professionalism And Competence." Seth P. Waxman, Solicitor General under President Clinton, said Estrada is a "model of professionalism and competence" and that he has "great respect for both Mr. Estrada's intellect and for his integrity." (Seth P. Waxman, Letter To The Senate Judiciary Committee, As Quoted In Alberto R. Gonzales, Letter To Diane Feinstein, February 3, 2003)

"....According to Teddy, there are all kinds of reasons the Hspanic Caucus rejects Estrada.... I thought the problem was they didn't know anything about him?"
Well, they can't have it both ways. I wish some Pubbie would demand to know EXACTLY WHAT those reasons are. They shouldn't be allowed to make statements like that and not back them up with facts. It is the same kind of snide innucendo that Feinstien did earlier. I doubt Hatch would do it since I think he and Kennedy say they are friends.

Bob Dole had a great farewell session in the Senate Chamber his last day before engaging on that whiz-bang Presidential campaign in 96. Strom was at the gavel as Prez Pro Tem, and Dole and Byrd were exchanging platitudes when the subject of Strom's legendary filibuster came up. Dole looked up to Strom and asked "How long was it?" and Strom had it down to the minute - "28 hours, 17 minutes. 45 seconds." That was, by the way, a continuous discourse by Thurmond over that time. Dole looked over at Byrd and said:
"That's why he's never asked to be an after dinner speaker."
They were also talking about Byrd's filibusters, where Bagman Bobby'd be deep in the events of his past life as a Senator in Augustan Rome, and Dole recalled how Byrd was saying "This is undemocratic. Would Cicero accept this kind of measure?" Dole stepped into the well, asked for an inquiry recognition, and said "I just conferred with Senator Thurmond, he served with Cicero, and he assured me Cicero WOULD support this measure."
Different type of Democrat and Senate comity back then. The Dems today are hitmen.

From January 13, 1997, article about Paula Jones lawsuit before the SCOTUS:
Pros And Cons Of Delaying The Jones Case
The Supreme Court hears Clinton's arguments for delaying the suit
WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, Jan. 13) -- Supreme Court justices vigorously challenged arguments by attorneys for both President Bill Clinton and Paula Jones on whether the sexual harassment suit filed by Jones should be postponed until the president leaves office.
From the hour-long session it appeared that the court was searching for a middle ground position that would allow civil cases against sitting presidents to proceed, while not interfering with important official presidential duties.
The justices gave no clear indication how they will rule when a decision is handed down in four to five months, but expressed doubts about approving a blanket rule which would allow presidents to automatically defer all civil cases against them until their term is concluded.
Clinton attorney Robert S. Bennett argued before the court, "Unless there are exceptional circumstances in a case, the president of the United States should not be subject to litigation" while in office. "He should not be taken away from his constitutional duties."
Acting Solicitor General Walter Dellinger, who also offered arguments on Clinton's behalf, declared, "The public interest in a president's unimpaired performance of his duties must take precedence over a private litigant's desire for redress."

"IMHO Hillary Clinton cannot afford to have Maguel Estrada sitting on the D.C. Circuit and is thus tanking the DemocRATs. She will lie, cheat, and steal (documents) to keep him off the D.C. Circuit! "
I stand in awe of your perspicacity, PhiKapMom! C'mon over here, girlfriend, you can sit by me!! :-)

Thanks for posting that Waxman quote about Estrada.
That is why 2+2 has not added up to 4 in this case! It has to have had something to do with the Clintons that they took this stand alienating an entire voting block.

I'd like to see this poll question:
If given the choice between sending your 28 year old daughter to war against Iraq or for an evening spin in Ted Kennedy's car, which would you choose?

He's morphing into a Sid and Marty Kroft puppet.
He was sitting alone in his seat before the Armed Services Committee meeting with Rummy this morning, silently reading some paper or presentation a vicious little Wellsley grad prepared for him, and ... moving his lips.

These drunken commies have always thought they were beyond reproach. Yes they do, but they WILL answer some day and no political machine in the world will shut down that inquiry.
