Sen. Hatch turn, yea!:
"Here we are in the middle of an unprecidented filibuster."
"They asked question after question at the hearing. One that THEY conducted. THEY controlled."
"Two Senators sent follow-up questions. Two Senators...Mr. Estrada answered them and answered them fully."
(This is) "the tyranny of the minority."
"This is against our Constitutional duties."
"We're suppose to advise and consent. It doesn't mean advise and filibuster. It doesn't mean advise and obstruct."
"I ask advise and consent that follow-up questions (from Durbin and Kennedy) be put in the record."
"They couldn't dig up any dirt on him. What are they doing now? Trying to see, through some fishing exhibition, if they can dig up any dirt on him."

To invoke cloture and kill this filibuster, we will need 60. I can assume that we will have all 51 republicans on board. Miller (GA), Nelson (NE), and Breaux (LA) make 54. Where do our other 6 votes come from? Seems to me Hollings of SC (up for re-election in 04) expressed support for Estrada. Whether he votes for cloture is another story. Other Dem Senators up for re-election in 04:
Reid, NV*
Boxer, CA*
Dodd, CT
Graham, FL*
Inouye, HI
Bayh, IN
Mikulski,MD
Schumer, NY*
Edwards, NC
Dorgan, ND
Dasshole, SD
Wyden, OR
Leahy, VT
Murray, WA
Feingold, WI
*States where I think the Hispanic community would have to be seriously considered
Also, Dem Jeff Fingaman of NM, not up for re-election until 2006, would be hard pressed to tell Hispanics in his state (about 41% of population) why Estrada is not qualified.

Best idea on the thread, Republic!
Call your senators' offices and play the race card big time. Use the 'RATS tactics against them. Fight fire with fire.

Come on folks, call those Democrat senators, and tell em to stop this madness. Our country is in peril, they should not be wasting their time on this meanspirited attack on President Bush and his judicial nominee. Frankly, I'd appreciate it if the Dem's gave the GOP more time to put the JQ Public's face into what the D's are doing. Call your Dem's if you like, but be sure to call the Republicans, Frist, Judiciary Cmte., your Senators and tell them we want a true mandatory floor time filibuster rule engaged, 24/7...!
BE SURE TO GIVE THEM YOUR MAILING ADDRESS.

if Hollings, the FL dem senators and the NM dem join on board, that is only 57. Do we ned 60 to break the filibuster or do they need 41 to keep it going? Kerry is in the hospital (or will be), without him, it could go 58-41, 59-40 or 60-39 and I'm wondering what will result from a vote of 99 senators instead of 100.
To: watsonfellow
Filibuster speakers do not have to speak about anything pertinent to the issue on which they are trying to prevent a vote. In the good old days, senators would stand up for hours and read the names out of the D.C. phone book.
I am hoping it reaches that point as it hasn't been done in a long time, most people will be appalled by it, and it will only make Daschle and his band of flaming hacks look very bad to the American people, especially in the Hispanic communities.

Even though the Bela Lugosi reference is obvious, BELLA means PRETTY...and she's definitely NOT. :-) Actually, I think it was intended to be spelled "Bela" - as in Bela Lugosi - the vampire.
To: Coop
Frist said this morning he wants a up or down vote, will not not invoke because he doesn't beleive it should require 60 votes for confirmation and they would do to all the Presidents appointments if they start now.
To: Coop
Seems to me that of that list, Graham, Feingold, Dorgan and Bayh could play the moderate, for Estrada.
