Editor, Times-Dispatch:

People who have tuned in to any of the networks over the past few days have no doubt been treated to any number of stories celebrating Bill Clinton's great military victory over Yugoslavia, as well as his supposed political victory over those who have questioned the advisability of his ruthless attacks on a sovereign nation that has never threatened our national interests. Does the Leftist Media even believe their own spin?!! Are they as corrupt as Clinton, or just plain IGNORANT?!!

After two months of indiscriminately slaughtering innocent Kosovar Albanians and Serbs alike, destroying the infrastructure of a sovereign nation, and expending a substantial portion of our already-depleted weapons cache, the G-8 deal Slobodon Milosevic apparently has accepted is almost exactly the same as the one we could have had prior to Clinton's commencement of the bloodshed.

By all accounts, the Rambouillet Accords the administration tried to force down the throats of the Yugoslavian leadership were acceptable to Slobo with two major exceptions. First, the occupying force Clinton wanted to install in Kosovo had to be NATO-led, while Slobo insisted that the peacekeepers be UN-led. The difference is critical, as a UN-led force would be monitored by the U.N. Security Council, on which both Russia and China have veto authority; while a NATO-led force would answer directly to Slick Willie.

The second major disagreement related to the future of Kosovo as a province of Yugoslavia, where the U.S./Kosovo Liberation Army contingent demanded a plebiscite in three years, which would allow the ethnic Albanians to secede and form their own Islamic state--while Milosevic insisted that Kosovo remain part of greater Yugoslavia.

The ugly truth the Clinton cheerleaders in the media refuse to publicize is that the G-8 agreement includes a UN-led peace-keeping force, and no provision for Kosovar Albanian independence. Make no mistake about it, the capitulation required to reach an agreement in the Clinton/Milosevic negotiations was much more Clinton's than it was Slobo's--and the two-month massacre was a huge waste of money, weaponry, lives, and American prestige!

Charlie Daniels is a very patriotic guy, as I'm sure you're aware. They turned his song down for the tribute to 9/11 attack. Do you recall the details? Seems like they thought his lyrics were "controversial" or something.

BTW, I had attended his concert back in '77 (geez, I'm getting old) with Charlie Daniels playing that fiddle like a madman. He wore this huge cowboy hat, biggest one I've ever seen...you couldn't see his face at all, under it!

It was quite the memorable performance. Nice to see he is still going strong.

BTW...Please pardon the vanity; however, with two young children, my wife and I don't get to the movies much anymore and I'm just getting around to watching "Saving Private Ryan." I must say, while I can't stand Spielberg's politics, he does tell one Hell of a story. As coincidence would have it, we rented this movie on Memorial Day weekend, and I was floored by the sacrifice our forefathers made in the fight against Tyranny and Injustice. My hat is off to all those Freepers out there who have fought in defense of our Country and our Liberty, as well as those who have lost loved ones in the line of duty. To quote Abraham Lincoln, "I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice on the Altar of Freedom."

And to those of you who are losing heart in our ongoing battle against Tyranny and Injustice in our own Country, please remember the sacrifices our predecessors made...and realize that Bill Clinton is no match for the progeny of our honored forebears.

Listen, I'm no where in the same league as your friend the (professional) guitar player, Mud.

I'm still studying fundamental music theory, scales, modes, keys.
Not to find out "where" I might fit in, music-wise; rather, "if."
Understand?

I'm infinitely better listening to fine guitarists.
The likes of Toy *or* Tommy Caldwell, Wes Montgomery, Dwayne Allman, Dicky Betts, Warren Haynes, SRVaughan, George Benson, Roy Buchanan, Les Paul, Russell Malone, Larry Carlton, Jeff Baxter (to name only a handful) are a true inspiration to me & I hold each and every one in the highest esteem.
But I'm not kidding anyone -- & least of all myself -- either, in thinking I'll ever approach any single one of those guys.
That *perspective* was something I recently acquired about myself.
An unintended consequence of dreaming I suppose one could call it.

So between my martial arts & now this damned cold?
I've simply not had the ambition to pick up either the Gibson or Martin.
Damned shame, a waste of a couple fine intruments.

Everybody fits in.

My students range in age from 9 to 63, listen to all kinds of music, and want something different out of playing.

The key is to play like you. Nevermind Wes, Larry, Dickie, Skunk, and the rest of them(all monsters IMHO). Those are the guys you STEAL from. Whether it's a chord, a lick, tone, or anything else you like about them. Believe me, I've ripped off every one of them. I'm still using stuff from Dickie I learned in high school. Wes was a freak of nature. The guy played with his thumb, for pete's sake! Larry was studying Wes when he was 6 yrs. old! You can't put yourself up against any of them, just like you can't put them up against each other.

If you're studying theory, make it a practical application for the instrument. Forget modes. Learn the major scales up and down the neck and the corresponding chords. Get the SOUND of the chords in your ear, the modes follow without intense study. For instance, play an E minor chord followed by a C major scale. That is the SOUND of phrygian(think Metallica). Try playing an E major chord followed by a C# minor pentatonic scale, that is the sound of DICKIE!

Don't let it get you down, this stuff is fun. It's not as complex as it seems. Once you know a single key(I start with C),and I mean all the chords and inversions, and the scale from the open position the the 22nd fret, the rest of the keys are the SAME thing in a different place. Chin up, dude. Playin' will cure what ails ya.

I've a '97 Les Paul Custom (~traditional black w/ white trim, gold hardware & abalone inlay. nice.)
The beautiful sound of Toy Caldwell (& his playing style) had a LOT to do with my acquiring the Gibson.
The Martin's not a bad instrument either, both are capable of producing a wonderful sound.
