And what she really means by that is "We deserve it! Let it come quickly!"The left is so infused with hatred for America -- deep, bitter, implacable -- that they would be perfectly willing to die, to have every American, man, woman and child, also die if it meant that America would also be destroyed. If we were able to rid the planet of every enemy America has, our own leftists would do everything they possibly could to destroy our country themselves.
BILL AND HILL *KNEW* ABOUT IRAQ AND FAILED TO ACT!!!

They already had eight years of fun driving America into the ground. I purport it's not just hatred for America; it's hatred for freedom. The enemy within has a lot in common with the enemy right outside...

It's worse. *WE* knew about Iraq; *WE* elected Bill; *WE* dropped the ball when we let Clinton hamstring us. Gotta take some of the blame...our Lewinsky obssession should have been a foreign policy obssession. I mean, obviously, "WE" are the American public, with a noticeable exception for most of the people here, but still, never forget that Clinton managed to screw us most right when we thought we had him. Every time. Hillary is almost as good at that sort of idiotic statecraft. Be ever vigilant, is what I'm saying, I guess. ;-)

"Bush I said (paraphrasing) that the United States HAD to abide by the resolution of the coalition. It was a matter of HONOR."Bush was free to do whatever he wanted and honor had nothing to do with it. At the time, Charles Freeman, our ambassador to Saudi Arabia, made this clear. Bush I was concerned about getting mired down in an occupation that could last a long time while we tried to keep the peace between opposition groups and hunted down an elusive Saddam. He was content to drive Saddam from Iraq and then get out with a cease-fire and Saddam on his side of the line. Had he stayed, removed Saddam from power and got a new government up and running, he probably would have alienated some of the Arabs who had gone along with Desert Storm, but there was no obligation to leave.

Hillary is almost as good at that sort of idiotic statecraft. No my friend, I'd say Hillary gave birth to the concept of idiotic statecraft. Kind of like SPAWN of idiotic statecraft, IMO. ;-)
"Being ever vigilant" is why I've tried to post my huge message on several of these Powell threads. We must never ever forget what we almost lost with those lying Marxist thieves!

Good analysis re: Bush I and the "end" of Desert Storm. I do believe that Bush I has since admitted that it was a mistake to have let Saddamn and his regime continue. The past twelve years has not been encouraging...at least as far as having others (ie: an internal revolution, the Arab world, etc.) take care of the problem, let alone contain the creep from violating the cease-fire agreement over and over again.

I think it quite possible that there are Iraqis, or their minions, who lurk at that site and drop nuggets to get the rubes all enraged against the US. I think it also possible that similar types have infiltrated the radical environmental groups and have egged them on to a more violent course of behavior than they formerly had.
Of course, it could be a coincidence, like when "gravitas" appeared in about 100 media outlets within 24 hours of its first use (during the 2000 campaign).
It is an interesting observation, and I think we should pay attention to coincidences like that, which might be coincidences after all.
Or not.
To: Miss Marple
I agree with you -- could well be possible. I imagine there are more than a few LE lurkers over "there". :-P Al Qaeda ties to...now wouldn't that be an interesting headline?

Powell plays this role. As the designated "Switzerland," when he comes out for war, at least SOME libs must stand up and take notice. Exactly. I actually think he's one of the more effective tools in the war on terror. :-) Remember what ol' Genghis said...

I've got a better idea...how about a permanent presence by the UN in Iraq----the UN headquarters!
To: Bonaparte
WHat you are saying is that it's the UN's fault we have to deal with Sadamm now? If we's been allowed to finish the job the first round, there wouldn't be a second?

I don't think he's silly. I like his style!
But ... you're entitled to disagree - I don't care!!

The market reacts to the news. I have seen it a few times where the market will rise on news considered to be positive and then fall when that positive news is bombarded by negativism.
In todays case I saw the market rise up as optimistics were betting on Powells being able to deliver a 'smoking gun'. Then the market started a downtrend as it was realized that this would not be an adlai stevenson moment. Finally falling through the floor as it was minced into a 'Word Salad' by the cynical diplomats and tyrants.
Just an observation.

Well, where is the outrage from the Hispanic Caucus in Congress? Where's letters of outrage from LULAC in the NYT and the Wash. Post? Why are they not screaming from the hilltops that one of their own is being descriminated against by a bunch of rich white men and women in D.C.? Oh wait I forgot, Estrada is a Republican. Never mind.

"I thought the Iraqi's weren't necessarily Muslim, and that Hussein was basically agnostic.....this is INTERESTING"
You are correct. However, like the Somali warlords when I was in Mogadishu, they were "religous" when it suited whatever political end they were trying to achieve. Same with Saddam.
