A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

Member since April 20, 1998

Sauropod tells me he first became an activist in the early 1990's. He said it was the forced government taking of a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton (the famous "Sue" case) that really put him over the edge. The skeleton, excavated by a private company, was "the best one ever found, and when the feds, the ranchowner, and his Indian tribe learned about it, the District Attorney for the state of South Dakota authorized the FBI to come in and seize the property, as well as all other field notes on other digs and projects the company had. They also trumped up currency charges against the co-owners of the company, and one of them spent two years in jail for this. This occurred before Waco."

'Pod Speaks...

I was always anti-authori-
tarian in my youth. I was not particularly conservative until about 1990 or so. I thank the Large One in the afternoon for that shift in my thinking.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I also credit the education I received (particularly the graduate education - M.S.M.E) with teaching me how to think. This skill (thinking) is not possessed by everyone.
Pod holding pink shovel as prop (Shovels for Solidarity)
Testifying against the Roadless Area Iniative Forest Service public hearings in 2000.
I began to familiarize myself with land rights issues and "takings", etc., and have been an activist ever since. I've given testimony in Forest Service public hearings and in Department of the Interior public meetings. Although possessing no geology degree, my avocation is of being an avid fossil and mineral collector.
When the Department of the Interior tried to ram the "Baucus Bill" through in the mid-1990's, that also set me off!. The gist of the bill was that no one but degreed paleontologists were to be permitted to collect vertebrate material on any BLM controlled land. This monstrosity was put together by a group of elitist professors who didn't like commercial collectors or amateurs.
Anytime an elitist group tries to control an area of my life that should be free is an occasion to "go to war." Ruby Ridge and Waco really set me off, particularly after seeing the McNulty films. I track legislation and regulation that pertains to my areas of interest (land rights, smart growth, etc.) and have become a leader of the land rights community on FR.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I began reading the Washington Times in 1993 on a daily basis. While not perfect (they canned Samuel Francis), they are still the best newspaper around. This (and talk radio) is how I tracked the myriad scandals of His Slickness.
When the Monica thing broke, I was so hungry for news, I kept going to the Drudge homepage all the time to see what was breaking news. I started exploring the links and found FreeRepublic and started lurking. I joined about a month after finding the site and have been here ever since.
I have to tell you that another FReeper, Angelwood, has been an inspiration to me to get out and protest. During the March for Justice, I was unable to attend due to an obstinate wife, and I recall seeing it on the C-SPAN website and literally crying that there were so many folks who thought like I did about Bonnie and Clod. I resolved to attend the next major event that I could. That was the Judgement Day Rally (December 5, 1998) and started me down the path of active protesting.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I attended the House Manager's Dinner that honored the 13 House Managers who did their job in getting His Slickness impeached. At that rally, Angelwood looked at me with those baby blues of hers and asked me why I wasn't out there more often. I said I would start and soon I was joining the D.C. Chapter in front of the White House on Saturdays. I did perhaps two dozen or so of these protests. In addition, I have protested at two of the last three White House Correspondence Association dinners and also at events such as the Darby Farmland Rally (September 2, 2000). I try and videotape as much as I can of these events. I use the following logo on the protest tapes which I produce.
I have participated in several FReeps of Her Heinous at Massachusetts and Whitehaven (Witchhaven, for those of you in the know) and also FReeping Al Gore at a recent book signing.
Some of the most important FReeps that I have done include:
  • organizing the D.C. Chapter's protest of the Endangered Species Act in support of the Klamath Farmers two summers ago,
    and
  • counter-protesting the A.N.S.W.E.R and the D.A.W.N leftist filth anti-war rallies.
I also protested during the election fiasco in 2000 (first weekend after the election).
That's pretty much it. I keep busy being a Dad to my two kids and being the ant that spoils the picnic pretty much everywhere else.
~ His Royal Podness
Sauropod often use props and street theater to make his points to the sheeple. For the Klamath Farmer rallies, he appeared as King Suckerfish; for the W.H.C.A. protests, he dressed as Her Heinous one year and as Media Whore Madam the next.
He dressed as Her Heinous for the Hillary! (tm) FReeps, using different wigs and dresses.   For a number of the counter-protests, he's donned the Tyranny Response Team shirts and used Braveheart Blue facepaint.
I thought you might like to some of the more outlandish outfits he's donned for some of those FReeps!
Oh! Those legs!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Under whichever guise, this dino is a constant presence at all the DC Freeps, to the delight of the DC Chapter and the dismay of liberals everywhere.

His Royal Podness, King Suckerfish,
Her Heinous, or Media Whore Madam...

Take a bow, please...

Welcome lavaroise. I gather St.Louie1 is explaining about the hugs? LOL -- mind if I listen in? I still haven't figured it out exactly. I have noticed that he tends to get winded by dansangel's hugs though. ;)

Today started raining and now it's a beautiful, light-hearted day outside. The mecurial moods of the weather are following the flow of my day, which started out pretty terribly and is now proceeding quite wonderfully.

La Varoise in French?

You're the second freeper who finds out. (It is the feminin for Le Varois). I'm no lady but she is a sort of mascot lady reminding me of times past.

My other name is porcupine. I don't think I have a chance.

Well, unless you're a 'girl' porcupine, there's not much danger of getting a hug from louiewolf. :) I mean, he loves hugs and all, but don't think he'd be willing to risk being stabbed a gazillion times to get one. :)

Excerpt:

Tragedy Over Texas
'All mankind is in their debt'

02/04/2003

By BRUCE NICHOLS / The Dallas Morning News

HOUSTON - The lives of the seven Columbia astronauts were celebrated Tuesday in a short, somber service laced with Old Testament wisdom and attended by thousands who remembered them as explorers who dared to dream.

"Today we remember not only one moment of tragedy but seven lives of purpose and achievement," President Bush said at the service. "To leave behind Earth and air and gravity is an ancient dream of humanity - for this seven it was a dream fulfilled."

President Bush wipes his face before speaking at the memorial service.

Thousands of people bunched together on a mass of green lawn stretching more than 200 yards from the white, square-shaped building that houses Mission Control at the Johnson Space Center. Many of them knew the astronauts who died early Saturday when space shuttle Columbia disintegrated in the skies over Texas.

President Bush encouraged the mourners to remember that "great endeavors are inseparable from great risks." And he told the NASA workers at the private memorial - which was also aired on all major networks and news channels - that, "In your grief you are responding as your friends would have wished, with focus, profession and unbroken faith in the mission of this agency."

"The families here today shared in the courage of those they loved, but now they must face life without them," the president said. "The star is lonely, but you are not alone. In time you will find comfort and the grace to see you through."
