THE black community has made great strides in the last few decades. Racism has certainly not been eradicated, but it is no longer accepted with a wink and a nod as it once was. We are proud to see Secretary of State Colin Powell, even when we do not agree with everything he does. The same with Condoleezza Rice, the president's national security adviser, and many others.
That's the good news.
The bad news is that in some regions we black folks are so overwhelmed by the huge numbers of immigrants that we are being displaced in our schools, jobs and neighborhoods.
That may seem a harsh thing for a black person to say against brown people, but I don't see it that way. I am an American, proud of both my nation and my race. What I see in my community of South Central Los Angeles -- where I have lived nearly all my life -- is thousands of Mexicans who care nothing about our traditions and culture, and only want to impose their way on us. That's not immigration, that is invasion.
It is sad what has happened in my neighborhood. This was a respectable, blue-collar area of hard-working black folks living in their bungalows and going to their jobs. In just a couple decades it has become almost entirely Mexican. They live several families to a three-bedroom house and keep chickens in the yard, but the city doesn't care about the zoning violations or the noise of having so many crowded into a small space.
According to the Census Bureau, nearby Watts is now 60 percent Hispanic, and it was previously the black community on the West Coast. No longer.
The immigration situation is really hard on our young people. A 17-year-old kid on my street couldn't get a job at McDonald's because he didn't speak Spanish. Another young neighbor boy was thrown into a bilingual classroom at age 8 and was forced to listen to Spanish all day long. His six-hour school day was turned into three hours. When his mother asked for an English-only class, she was told "there are none."
Would you believe that I, a black man, have been called a racist many times for speaking up against this invasion? I have a radio program on the subject and therefore hear from a lot of people, even some in Mexico.
When they call me a racist, I put this question to them: What if a hundred thousand Vietnamese were suddenly dropped into Guadalajara? And what if those newcomers didn't speak Spanish, and further insisted that their children be taught in Vietnamese? What would you think if they were happy to work for half the normal wages for any job they could get, thereby putting thousands of your local Guadalajarans out of work? Would it be racist to say there was a problem?
When people of good will and good sense hear the situation put that way, nearly all understand and respect my viewpoint.
Now if only they would listen in Washington. America's political leaders are the problem. They have been selling out this great nation for real and imaginary political benefits while ignoring the dangers. Even after Sept. 11, nothing has been done to plug up our borders. Another terrorist attack could be 10 times worse, and it would likely happen because Congress and the president learned nothing about the need to keep the nation's borders secure.
If I sound angry, you hear right. Like other Americans, I want immigration to be legal, controlled and reduced. But as a black American, I see that the burden my people must carry is heavier than for many others. I am sure that if Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., were alive, he would understand the fundamental unfairness to the black community of allowing more immigration than the nation can handle.
I worked seven years in a 'pack'. I agree with you 100%.
Amen! That would destroy the cornerstone of why they come. But big biz won't have it.
Is there a way for us to quantify exactly which corporations/companies use illegals?

Yeah, it's hilarious to watch an African-American blast the Mexican-Americans . . . . . while we Americans stand aside and wonder what in the hell is going on with America?
That's all.
As he signs a bill to "speed up" the "normalization" of 600,000 NEW DemocRAT voters.
If that was your point, I did indeed miss it, and apologize for overlooking it.
Wait, who said that? I'm spozed to be grumpy.
Is it your premise that because other great nations have allowed themselves to be overwhelmed by barbarian invasions, we should too?
So9
We moved back to the area in 1997, and by then the decimation of the local workers at both Tysons and Honeysuckle White was well advanced. And things have only gotten worse in my old hometown (from which we moved, in November of 2002, gladly). From what the castoff workers told us (in both my and my husband's "official capacity") is that the plant managers had started bringing in outside workers starting in the early 1990s, and then about 2-3 years later, when the level of immigrant workers had risen to about 1/3 of the plants, they began systematically getting rid of the local workers. That 10 year period coincides nicely with the regimeof WJC, of course.
If that was your point, I did indeed miss it, and apologize for overlooking it.
Wait, who said that? I'm spozed to be grumpy.
Oh,I do remember this : The POS/WJC said, in December 2000, that he thought it would be a good idea if America quit farming and growing crops, and would just import all its grains, vegetables, and fruits. He said Thirs World countries could do it cheaper andmore efficiently, and they needed the money.
I am not making this up.
Bingo! There it is and he said it himself: Spanish-speaking immigrants (not including the elderly) do not consider their "core culture" to be American. They have not and will not assimilate, nor is it their intent. Even as far north as Iowa, there are clusters of Mexicans in communities who send their earnings "home" to Mexico (rather than spend in the local economy) and travel back to Mexico every chance they get. In spite of the politically active priest here and there espousing mass in Spanish, there are no commercial areas in Iowa that are exclusively Spanish-speaking. If there are, non-Spanish speakers simply do not frequent them and they will therefore probably not proliferate. The numbers are not there (yet).
Or maybe they want to provoke violence, so they'll have their excuse to revoke the Bill of Rights, declare martial law, and confiscate our firearms. H**l, I don't know...But when over 80% of the American people, of all races, are screaming about the horrendous consequences of uncontrolled illegal immigration, and both parties pretty much laugh in our faces...Something's wrong.
It is not politically correct in by any means, which is the point. This is not meant a s a joke or in any way to be funny, but more so to let everyone get a little insight into what I think hits the nail on the head, so to speak. I am not passing this along in order to try to change your mind, to use my traffic base to be a "soap box preacher" or any such thing. This is just a very nice article that is right to the point. If you have another view that is worthwhile to read, in other words does not attack degrade or be-little anyone or anything, please feel free to send it to me. I'll post it too.
IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT
I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely comprised of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language! "In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But, once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.
