For the second time in two years, President Bush spoke to console and grieve with the rest of the nation in remarks regarding the tragic loss of the space shuttle Columbia. Bush left Camp David early this morning and returned to the White House as he followed the events over the Texas sky. In his speech, Bush succinctly expressed the fears of by stating, 'The Columbia is lost; there are no survivors.' The President exchanged condolences with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon as the first Israeli astronaut lost his life with six other Americans. All federal flags have been lowered to half-staff.
God bless the families of the brave souls who have joined the heavens they so willing chose to explore.

I can not express my ANGER at Iraq...that America deserved this!! That God is getting back at us. I always thought that we prayed to the same God, just in different ways...boy has this opened my eyes. The God I pray to would never do this, and He would not be happy that someone on earth would say that He is. We couldn't possibly worship the same God.

Just remember that there are many of us who are appreciative beyond words for what you and your husband are doing for us. We can't all do what you are doing, but we are behind you. And prayers, of course.

Thank you for these pictures. I have listened on and off throughout the day of the coverage on TV, but didn't cry till now. Seeing these pictures just told me how burdened this man is. It just really pisses me off that he is cleaning up the crap from the 8yrs before he took office that blew up in our faces 9-11. If he didn't have the this crap clinton ignored for 8yrs, he wouldn't of looked soo soo tired today. This just adds to it.
And of course WE are all so glad that he is our President at this point in our lives with all that is happening, but at the same time I feel selfish and guilty that I want him there. As we all go to church tomarrow, if you talk to your pastor, priest etc.. before the service, please we must all remind them to ask for not only a moment of silence for the 7 but also a moment to pray for our President. It has been said that it gives him strength knowing people pray for him. thanks rintense and all for listening to my rant..... and thanks for posting these pictures tonight and everynight.

President Bush follows the old saying: The best reponse is no response. That way you give not credit to what was said.
To: mystery-ak
Please know that we are all thinking of you and your family! We appreciate the sacrifice your husband, and you, are making.

Not an easy job at all but...ahhh, look at the support he has from his parents, sister, brothers, wife, daughters, administration and people like us who support and pray for him.
However, his first and foremost support is his God. Let's face it folks, when you have those heavy hitters behind you you can do anything!

*He just looks so tired to me.*

Be very glad that you have a God who does not rule by tyranny. And He loves you...so much neither you or I could ever comprehend it-faith is the exercise of trusting His timing. Even in the roughest of moments. And my guess is, that He is waiting patiently for you with open arms and best of all, forgiveness-complete, and full to overflowing.

Seeing the events of today reminded me, of course, of the Challenger disaster of 1986. I think it did, everyone. However it also reminded me of one of my favorite episodes of my favorite tv show, The Wonder Years. In that episode, Kevin's mother seemed to be losing it, and his world seemed to be falling apart. He thought his mother was drifting away from his father and his family as she seemed to be in a world of her own. He didn't understand it. Then, at the end of the episode, he overheard his mother talking with his father and she mentioned that she stopped by their church to say a prayer for the astronauts (of Apollo 13), for those events were unfolding at that time. It was then that Kevin's trivial problems were put into perspective for him and he realized that there were other, more important things in life worth troubling over. Good episode. Good lesson.

Thanks, Howlin. Flat Stanley and the WH response to him is a bright spot in this dark day. Hope it's put on the kids page on the WH website.

Welcome, isn't this just the best, up-lifting site. In fact it is my only site, except for the White House.gov. Are you presently in the service or a retired one?

My President. I defend him every day. He is hated by the hateful and ignorant. So I defend and honor him by my commitment.
God show your mercy on the families of the dead and on us.

Thank you!
Absolutely, it is my favorite site, and has been for several months now.
I served 86-90 and again briefly in Desert Storm. Joining the Marine Corps was one of the best decisions of my life.

Thank you, Rintense. Father, help us deal with this sorrow. God bless President Bush and this nation as we face another moment of grief. When I think the tears have dried, they start again.
