Did anyone hear Fox TV report that an AP reporter added a smear in a profile of the crew?
This was between 12:30 and 1:00 I believe.
The Fox person apologized and slammed AP writer.
Did anyone hear this besides me? What is AP thinking besides their normal hate selves.

Are you referring to the comments made by Shepard Smith regarding Dr. Kalpana Chawla?

Shep said he thought the AP remarks about her were inappropriate, and he was sorry he had read them.

All I heard was that the fox reporter apoligized about something he said that he was had read off a AP report.
I don't know who was smeared.

What were the remarks?
Anyway, the only surprise here for me is that it came from the AP and not Reuters.

He said it was from biographies released PRIOR to the launch; but he read the comments directly, before reviewing. Afterwards, he apologized, saying they were wholly inappropriate and he was sorry that he had read them.

I saw it. Shephard Smith said he read the AP copy as it came off the wire unaltered, not knowing in advance what was on it, and he apologized for having read it.

What is the smear?
To: redlipstick
That is it. Did he say who the AP reporter was?

I heard Shepard Smith say that one of the female astronauts, the poor gal from India if I'm not mistaken, had hit a wrong switch or something and that caused part of a satillite to get loose and had to be manually retrieved by other members of the crew who were outside the shuttle at the time. Wish I could remember exactly what was said, but I was only half listening till I realized what Smith had said. I was puzzled as to why he would even bring something like that up. Later on I did hear his apology.

I heard when Shep was reporting that AP wire. I thought to myself - "Come one, Shep - that was really tasteless."
Then - a little bit later on Shep apologized for the statement - he said that he had been reading it just as it came across the wires and that he didn't really realize just what it was that he was saying until after the fact. (I'm paraphrasing here - but it was something to that effect.)
He said that he was truly embarrassed and that he was very sorry.

I heard the slam, which pissed me off. I didn't hear the apology. I'm glad Shep did that.

I heard it. Shepard Smith, while reading a bio of Chawla, mentioned that she made a mistake on an earlier mission, causing a satellite to tumble, and requiring a space-walk to correct the problem. It sounded really harsh when it came out, and sounded extremely inappropriate. A short time later, Smith basically apologized, saying that he was reading the report that he was handed, and didn't hear the words until they were out, and that he was sorry. I didn't catch details on who wrote it, but I absolutely believe him that he didn't know what was coming until after he read it.

I heard the comment made via my car radio, so I know the comment in that instance wasn't made by anyone from FOX. However, when we returned home, Shepherd Smith stated that he had made an inappropriate comment about one of the members of the shuttle crew earlier and "it was totally inappropriate". I assume it was the same comment made by the newscaster on the radio indicating that the female crewmember of Indian ethnicity had been on a previous flight and had caused a satellite to become misdirected and two other crewmembers had to conduct a space walk to correct the situation.
I remember when I heard it initially on the radio that my wife and I looked at each other and both felt it was a very unusual, unimportant and intentionally or not, mean-spirited thing to say.

I didn't wait for the apology. I immediately went to another channel. Shepard Smith *often* doesn't read everything on the cue cards because he dislikes the message. I don't know what happened to him this time. Haven't returned to FOX yet. Everytime I see that poor woman's face, I think of what Smith said.

but I absolutely believe him that he didn't know what was coming until after he read it.
...
So do I. Its that AP report and the writer of it that I am trying to nail down. Thanks!
