yes, I heard Shep Smith--he apologised---he was just reading straight off the wire. Everyone is under stress but AP Wire slur on astronaut is inexcuseable.

At this point in the mission, she was basically a passenger.

Heck, at this point in the mission, she was basically cargo. It's virtually inconceivable that anything she'd done on any previous mission had any relevance whatsoever. The comment was unnecessary, inappropriate and cruel, and I (and many others) recognized it as such at the time. And, based on what he said later, so did Smith...

Today I have been noticing a LOT of crappy reporting on Fox; the one girl they had on earlier in the afternoon was HORRIBLE. Just dreadful.

and I enjoyed your help until it seemed that Fox was your target. I did say in the thread title a smear from AP not fox.

here

anyways the ap link to nasa is not working so at this point we have a ap report from a nasa link that does not work. Maybe nasa had it at their site but would they? That is the next question.

Judging from the responses about this on this very forum today, I was beginning to think she might have been the first person EVER to make a mistake at NASA.

conservatives in particular: we take umbrage at the offense of someone who is unable to defend themselves--and we don't discriminate on the basis of race, religion, ethnicity, or sex.

and

True conservatives aren't racist, sexist, or otherwise bigoted.

and

I'll go out on a limb here and say that I bet Kalpana Chawla doesn't fit the "conservative" profile.

Huh? What information do you have that suggests this? Most engineers I know (and studies show) vote Republican. This is quite an assumption on your part.

Who are you to tell people to not post of FR? But I forget, only 100% pro GWB/pro Fox News comments are allowed on FR these days.

For what its worth, I was watching Shepherd Smith as he was "READING THE LIVE FEEED" about the crewmen and was appalled at what was said about the Indian woman. I also noticed a slight hesitation from Shepherd after he read what he read. I also saw his later apology and complete embarrassment but there was no mention about his source.

I for one do not see any point here in attempting to do any smear on Fox News. Don't forget, they are the new kid on the block and do not yet have the globalized news network that the ex-mainstreams do. They are doing the best they can with the resources they have and in my opinion they are doing a pretty good job.......

I didn't wait for the apology. I immediately went to another channel. Shepard Smith *often* doesn't read everything on the cue cards because he dislikes the message. I don't know what happened to him this time. Haven't returned to FOX yet. Everytime I see that poor woman's face, I think of what Smith said.

This makes Shep different from every other TV news anchor on the planet how, exactly?

"7th segment in the broadcast -- they are labeled alphabetically -- A-B-C-D-E-F-G"

Oh, thank you! I, too, have wondered all along what the B-Block was (find the segment rather annoying, actually, but am very glad at least to know the reference.)

Give it a break.....or take it up with the owner of the forum if you have a gripe.

It's not just Fox, although Sheppard Smith was probably the worst today. While he was interviewing John Pike, he actually asked if Columbia were several hours away from landing. The news networks do an especially poor job of covering science and technology.
