Iraqis Call Shuttle Disaster God's Vengeance Sat February 1, 2003 02:08 PM ET
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Immediate popular reaction in Baghdad on Saturday to the loss of the U.S. space shuttle Columbia and its seven-member crew -- including the first Israeli in space -- was that its was God's retribution on Americans. "We are happy that it broke up," government employee Abdul Jabbar al-Quraishi said.
"God wants to show that his might is greater than the Americans. They have encroached on our country. God is avenging us," he said.
Car mechanic Mohammed Jaber al-Tamini noted Israeli air force Colonel Ilan Ramon was among the dead when the shuttle broke up shortly before its return to earth.
"Israel launched an aggression on us when it raided our nuclear reactor without any reason (in 1981), now time has come and God has retaliated to their aggression," Tamini said.

So which as it? God? Satan? Both working in concert? Make up your mind already!

Yeah, it's not good.
Another shuttle disaster is something everyone could have done without.
If this turns out to be an avoidable disaster, as the first one was, NASA is going to get a reaming the likes of which has never before been seen. Calls to shut down exploration entirely, endless conspiracy theories and so on and so forth.
It would be better for them if it was terror, because if it was error (my guess) they will never hear the end of it.

There are consequenses to our behavior in everything in life.
Abortion is not a nation badge of honor, if you feel it is, then that is your business.
I find it to be a sin of our nation.
But this is the tread about the loss of some of our finest heros.
Perhaps you can start a pro-abortion thread another place and time.
I don't want to keep bing dragged back to answer you...again.

So how do you explain the Challenger disaster? I don't. We'll settle on it being an accident, for the sake of argument. Unless you have more info.

>>Now, now, he never said anything like that. I don't agree with him either but that's a little bit too far IMO. <<
The linkage between the tragic deaths of today and the extreme right position about abortion can't help but bring this forward. Either he is using what happened to day as a podium for such intolerance is bad judgement (the same as the DU's politicization) or an implicit "God has turned His back" which is merely intolerance supported by God (just like OBL). Either is reprehensible.
>>That being said, we did fight a war to end slavery which is based upon the same legal rationale that abortion is. <<
Not even close, but I don't want to get into that today.

You make no sense, perhaps get going on these side issues on another thread.
Here we need to keep in mind the loss of our heroes.
May God bless the families.

All can be measured, by how they react to events..
All shall be judged by how they respond to the horror of this disaster..
Friends will rally to support - enemies will celebrate..
Observe.....and remember...

Dittos!
When was the last time these backward nations EVER contributed to the world on any level?
When was the last time they ever sacrificed for knowledge, or for the future?
They only kill, maim, and destroy.

Weren't his words just right? So graceful and comforting. "The same creator who names the stars also knows the names of the seven souls we mourn today". Powerful.

You need to go back and read your Bible. When you get finished, you need to repent for being a numbskull. Thats the most insensitive and stupid remark I have heard in a while.

Ramon was the commander on that very successful and timely mission. Their comment looks like Clue #1.
To: Terriergal
"shamelessly and endlessly run video of celebrating palestinians and Iraqis to provide momentum for Bush's oil war." That's because that is what THEY would do.
