Per Reuters:
Iraqis Call Shuttle Disaster God's Vengeance Sat February 1, 2003 02:08 PM ET
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Immediate popular reaction in Baghdad on Saturday to the loss of the U.S. space shuttle Columbia and its seven-member crew -- including the first Israeli in space -- was that its was God's retribution on Americans. "We are happy that it broke up," government employee Abdul Jabbar al-Quraishi said.
"God wants to show that his might is greater than the Americans. They have encroached on our country. God is avenging us," he said.
Car mechanic Mohammed Jaber al-Tamini noted Israeli air force Colonel Ilan Ramon was among the dead when the shuttle broke up shortly before its return to earth.
"Israel launched an aggression on us when it raided our nuclear reactor without any reason (in 1981), now time has come and God has retaliated to their aggression," Tamini said.

Too damned bad that he is on the wrong side.
OK, I'll say it.. this had BETTER be an accident.

The DU crowd were already hours ago expecting the media to "shamelessly and endlessly run video of celebrating palestinians and Iraqis to provide momentum for Bush's oil war."
*sigh*

I am sick of these satan worshipping cave men and for one personally cannot wait until the ordinance starts flying and these scumbags start flying into pieces. You iraqi dirtheads have not seen pure vengance but you are about to. Before anyone asks, yes, I am on active duty.

I'm thinking that something BIG has to happen to Baghdad. Do you recall Dresden? If memory serves, first the British did a massive nighttime fire raid, then the 8th Air Force followed up the next day with a lot more napalm.

yes, Reuters is just reporting the news. Only the facts. And those facts are that the people of iraq, collectively, are taunting us at our time of great national sadness. Don't you wish somebody would go over their and bomb them?
Well, guess what? We've got a war starting in three weeks!

We were not blessing the killing of a baby by law decades ago, no!
Now that we do, I expect less blessings and protection from God.
Why would we deserve more than that?

I know allot of you are mad as hell, when you see this but please apply some real thought to this...When Saddam or the Iraqi People can put a shuttle into space then they might have room to talk!!! This is a country that if it was not for oil would be the world's largest supplier of sand and take this for what it is worth and that is nothing.

So, did we deserve 9/11 too? Huh? Was that due to Stem Cell Research????

If you think God is smiling and blessing us all as a nation during the killing of a children in abortion, then you are unique in your view of God as well.

I'm going to clue you in on a secret, nobody deserves to die, but lot's of people do - everyday.
Some because of stupidity, some because they are in the wrong place at the wrong time, and many for no other reason than it's their time.
These sorry Iraqi civilians have lived under, supported and defended the Saddam Hussein regime. These same Iraqis shot at me and my friends during the first Gulf War. These same Iraqis have the choice now of getting ridding of Saddam, shooting us when we get there or dying by the truckload.
Feel sorry for them? NOT ON YOUR LIFE!!!!

Thought I'd post the entire quotes:
Matthew 5 44But I tell you: Love your enemies[1] and pray for those who persecute you, 45that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
Luke 13
1Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. 2Jesus answered, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? 3I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. 4Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them -- do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish."

I guess I risk being ridiculed for this, but I'm of the position that we all deserve worse than we get. In other words, we all deserve the wrath of God, since we've disobeyed him and ignored him and refused his affection. So we deserve his anger, manifest in tangible ways.
Instead, day after day we find ourselves blessed, recipients of his kindness. Instead of continual retribution for our hard-heartedness toward the Creator, He treats us mercifully and graciously.
Perhaps we should be more surprised when good things happen to us, and moved to thankfulness when good things happen to us, than to be surprised when painful things happen to us....
Our question should be, "Why do good things happen to bad people," not the similar and more commonly asked question....

No kidding...at least two of these men were good God-fearing, God-loving Texans(Husband and Anderson--both went to the same church from what I understand). I just don't see God taking his vengance on such as these. I see these men as very strong. It would be a joy to see how they pictured the things they saw beyond Earth through eyes that love Jesus Christ. BTW, kudos to Fox for allowing the people who knew these men to speak of their testimonies and belief in Jesus Christ.

~~~The sand people of the moon-god though are in a whole class of evil of their own, beyond what we do with abortion, but we are no prize in the eyes of God IMO due to all the abortions in America.~~~
To help you in your stated goal to NOT derail this thread with your views about cause and effect in re: to abortion, I have prepared the following statement you may use to address all who respond to you.
"Thank you for your post, however, the discussion of abortion, on this thread, is inappropriate and as I stated earlier, we should not derail the topic of the thread."
As a Canadian, my heart goes out to all Americans today. This is a terrible tragedy. President Bush's words were exactly perfect today. He quoted the book of Isaiah, both Jews and Christians can relate to the passage he quoted.
God knows all the stars by name and also the astronauts who were killed today.
It is hideous that some Iraquis would claim this as a judgement and some here on FR would agree with this simplistic assesment.
For those that say such hideous things I direct them to the book of Job. One of the very oldest books of the Bible, and how it explains tragedy.
Trajedies of this nature are never judgements of God, but have always been difficult to understand.
So it was also with ancient man.
The book of Job deals with this difficult issue and there is no better recourse or argument then that ancient Biblical book.
Those that judge, will find their inane arguments documented and refuted in this ancient text.
God bless the brave astronauts who have given their lives in service to their country and their greiving families.
God bless George W. Bush.
