Iraqis Call Shuttle Disaster God's Vengeance Sat February 1, 2003 02:08 PM ET
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Immediate popular reaction in Baghdad on Saturday to the loss of the U.S. space shuttle Columbia and its seven-member crew -- including the first Israeli in space -- was that its was God's retribution on Americans. "We are happy that it broke up," government employee Abdul Jabbar al-Quraishi said.
"God wants to show that his might is greater than the Americans. They have encroached on our country. God is avenging us," he said.
Car mechanic Mohammed Jaber al-Tamini noted Israeli air force Colonel Ilan Ramon was among the dead when the shuttle broke up shortly before its return to earth.
"Israel launched an aggression on us when it raided our nuclear reactor without any reason (in 1981), now time has come and God has retaliated to their aggression," Tamini said.

I wish it were that simple - but it wasn't a report back from Du. It statred out innocuous, then got progressively worse as time went on... it was a Freeper, I'm sad to say...

>>This is just a disaster and I don't think this is the hand of God.
But what I agreed with the other Freeper on was that we probably lost our umbrella of protection from God due to our national behavior.
Remember that God before walked his people through SAND for 40 years till a whole generation died when God was mocked.
When we destroy His creation, do we expect no punishment?

Good God in Heaven! This could have been lifted word for word from a Taliban text!!! Your "but" removes your opening sentence and betrays your true thinking. OBL used this same reasoning for 9/11!!!!! This is the kind of thing that abortion snipers say! You are frightening in your moral sanctimony and I suspect God will not be really thrilled when you try to explain how used His name in vain to ascribe to Him a tragedy He no doubt has tears for at this very moment.

In exporing space, we have not as a nation set ourselves above God, as once did the Babylonians with the Tower of Babel. We seem to be only exploring His wonders.Well, thank you for that "if-God-wanted-us-to-fly-he'd've-given-us-wings" business.
If God had NOT wanted us to fly, and NOT to explore space...
He never would have given us imagination.

You can ID whodunit by the fallout. OK, we throw a few of thos "made in China" wrenches from WalMart into the warhead casing. When they vaporise it will confuse the world. :)

calm down? me? I'm calm... your post is kind of vague - speaking of God and then saying "enemies in high places" makes me think that's what you meant.
Yes if you consider "Iraqi gov't" a high place, I'd agree with you... but the context was oriented around "God."

The wrenches would have to be made of uranium or plutonium that was cooked in a ChiCom reactor...

Yes, I won't feel in the least guilty when iraqi civilians die in the upcoming war, because they were all laughing at us at our moment of pain. I won't feel bad. They deserve to die.
Right?

Yes both parties have some that claim 'Divine Guidance' (as with all religions) but as a Christian I can only trust in God's guidance, and I'm not to sure that Christianity or Islam can even be compared.

We're merely doing unto them as they would apparently wish to be done unto...

This shuttle situation is not 9-11, thank God. But my point is that when we kill the innocent by law in the womb by the millions in this country, then how do we expect God's protection and blessing to the levels we had in the past?
Some do God's work and a bunch kill their children.
We are a different people than a few decades past (as a whole).
I did not mean to create a side issue and I am sorry it went that way on this thread which respectfully represents our sorrow and anger at Iraq's idiotic message over it.

but alas, there have been posts this morning blaming the columbia disaster on the fact that there were minorities on board / YGBSM...He's not SY. That person -- now banned, to this board's credit -- made a vile remark about Kalpana Chawla.

God. My patience is wearing thin. Give me strength to contain myself until you strike those
B@st@rds in Iraq. Oh, I pray you don't use too many precision guided lightening bolts, earthquakes, typhoons, and volcanoes. I mean, there's Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and so on that are all in dire need of retribution. Please, by the next crescent moon.
To: NewYorker
Actually, Saddam probably ordered them to say those things. If he tells you to do something, it's not like you'd be allowed to question him, you just do it or else you die.

God doesn't blow up space shuttles. God doesn't prevent space shuttles from blowing up.
We put our lives into the hands of God, come what may, and that includes the bad things. There are no utopias until He comes back - and there's some ugliness before we get there, whether we believe in Him or not.

Genesis 18:31,32
Abraham said, "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?" He said, "For the sake of twenty, I will not destroy it." Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?" He answered, "For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it."
