The Dragon's Fury Series by Jeff Head was recently mentioned in the January 20, 2003 edition of Shotgun News. The article is by the owner of Fred's M-14 Stocks.
Here's what he said.
Right now, we are in the pre-WWII period, fat and complacant, sure of our superpowerness. Even 9/11 did not really wake us up. Volume I, Dragon's Fury - Breath of Fire was also written up in the June 17, 2002 edition on Page 73. The same owner of Fred's M-14 Stocks entitled his review, "Breath of Fire" a Scary Book.

BREATH OF FIRE A SCARY BOOK I just read a white hot new book on the start of World War III, called "Dragon's Fury - Breath of Fire" by Jeff Head.The first of five volumes, it is well worth the read because it shows how easy it would be in the world today for us to go - in a few months - from superpower to embattled ...under a threat even more massive than World War II.
Naturally, our Chinese friends are at the bottom of it, just like they will be in real life. (Before the outbreak of World War II with Japan, farsighted authors were portraying a war with Japan in prophetic fiction, one forecasting the Japanese advance on the Philipines - and the attack on Pearl Harbor! I sure hope Jeff doesn't have the same foresight, for, if he does, we are in for some rough sledding.) ...
The huge Chinese trade surplus today is financing a Chinese military build-up. The Japs were smart, tough enemies, and the Chinese are going to be tough, hard-to-beat enemies also. Truly, "those who do not remember history are condemmed to repeat it."

Everyone ... as a side note, let me announce that I became the proud grandfather of a new baby granddaughter today. Kyra Donnie, my third daughter's first child. She, the baby and the Dad are doing well, very blessed and proud as they can be this evening. 8 lbs 8 oz, 20 inches and three weeks early.
Perhaps I will post a thread with pics. It's our second grandchild, I'm just a touch proud of them all myself ... and also most thankful to a merciful God in Heaven.

Wife had first child nine months later. That first daughter is now 24 years old (as of January 16) and expecting number two.
This daughter (our number three child), who gave birth yesterday, was born in 1982 (we'd been married five years at the time) and is now 21.
So, here I am at 47, going on 48, with two grandkids and a third in the oven.
The wonderful birth of our lovely granddaughter will now forever, in our minds, also remind us of the tragic events of today. We will not be able to think of one, without remembering the other. She was born on the day before Columbia went down and we will teach her of the commitment, sacrifice and honor of those brave American and one Israeli soul who were all pushing technology, science and historical frontiers as she came into the world, and they went out of it.

I've been in hibernation for a couple o' weeks, but I wanted to let you know I finished the first installment of your series and thoroughly enjoyed it. Like most good writers developing a wide ranging story line, it takes about half the first book for you to lay the foundation. But, it appears you've built on bedrock. Once the "action" begins, it's time to "fasten yer seat belts folks"! Compelling reading Jeff.
Looking forward to starting volume two, "Trodden Under", but in the interim, felt compelled for some reason to reread Orwell's "1984" again after 30 years. Maybe the alliances developed in "Breath of Fire" touched a nerve or something....I dunno.
In any case, keep 'em coming. There are several folks around here lined up to read 'em when I'm finished. Maybe I should suggest they get their own copies ; )
