A Few of FR's Finest...Every Day - Week in Review 1-25,26-03

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

To Our FReeper FRiends: We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our spotlight on various FReepers. We thought we'd kick back on the weekends and simply review those who've been featured during the week. If you missed seeing them and want to say hello to them now, feel free to click on the link to that particular thread. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today and tomorrow, please feel free to do that also. One of us will always be around to see the welcome mat is still out, and maybe even put fresh flowers on the table. :)

1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar.
2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up.
3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit.
4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it.
5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me an FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~ Mixer

Good afternoon here, j - are you on the left coast?!
LOL

Actually, I am laughing at myself.
In sending an e-mail to a friend with the URL's for the website in Fairbanks, I had never gone to the Home Page.

There are a lot of links there to explore!

This gives me the opportunity to provide a better reference:

Home Page is: Click Here
http://aurora.ak.blm.gov/

The Live Cam is: Right Here
http://wwwndo.ak.blm.gov/live.html

Archives are here: GO Here

WARNING: These sites are addictive!!

Yes, left coast, 30 miles north of the Super Bowl...which is as close as I'll be getting.

I do hope to see the blimp as it passes back and forth from its home base.

Incredibly beautiful day...no ice fog here!

Did you two run everyone one off this fine day?!!

LOL. I guess so. Very quiet in here today.

I'm enjoying the Alaska webcam, thanks for the link. Beautiful pictures! I'm a desert rat though and thankful that the Good Lord has not chosen to plant me in Alaska. I wouldn't survive the winter.

Born in Miami - lived in Coral Gables until I was 9 1/2 - then Melbourne, halfway up the coast.

In later years, lived in Port Malabar, Ft. Pierce and Panama City.

However, I will be rooting for The Raiders!

It is amazing that I acclimated as easily as I did.

God wisely transitioned me with a year and 2 days in Rapid City, South Dakota, though, so it would be 'easier'..:))

Actually reached the point psychologically where my thought was "If it will just get up to ZERO - everything will be all right.

Scary, eh?
LOL

Hi JW. Your weather is the envy of the entire country, I think. My brother-in-law in San Diego has been bragging about their 75 degree temps. It's not quite that warm here......in the 50's today. But, PapaBear and I will be enjoying the warm sunshine off the coast of Mexico soon when we hop aboard a cruise ship in San Pedro on the 8th. I am SO ready for this cruise.

Of course, I'm going to miss you all, but I'll stop in here whenever I can to say hello and get my freepmail. I know of a internet location right near where the ship docks in Puerto Vallarta and that will be my very first stop in that port. (I know all the best internet places in all the ports on this itinerary. It will almost be like I am not gone at all.) :-)

Happy Super Bowl Sunday to you!

From the website........"One of the things that makes Alaska so special is that all three species of North American bears flourish here."

Well, I know for a fact that this California bear wouldn't be caught dead in Alaska unless it was July and there was a cruise ship nearby. LOL!!

Actually, the parts of Alaska I have seen are so beautiful and I admire the pioneer spirit of the rugged people who live there. Maybe when I was much younger I could have made my home there. Especially in Ketchikan, one of my favorite places.

Creek Street, Ketchikan

Mama_Bear, I'm delighted to hear you and the Old Griz will be cruising to Mexico for some well deserved R & R, and R & R...mmmm, that should read: rest and relax, restore and rejuvenate.

It's so cool that you'll be able to visit with us in Freeperville while on your adventure...ain't life grand?

Today, the sea is very blue...just watched the U.S. Navy pass by, a ship on its way north, cutting through the middle of a group of sailboats...beautiful sight...love that battleship gray...it was just a small ship, but anything Navy is a thing of beauty.

Cheers to you...)

Howdy ma'am. Your photos and links are something to behold.

The ice fog reminds me of a situation we had when we lived in Spokane.

Sub-freezing temperatures and high humidity created a winter wonderland of frost on everything. We had a big white birch tree in our front yard. The frost clung to every hanging twig and branch and with a streetlight acting as backlight, I snapped some beautiful slides in the late night hours.

I don't have a slide adapter for my scanner, otherwise I would post a pic. How about I just hold the slide up to the monitor?!?

During one of these "Frosty times" a friend who lived down the street stepped outside one night and saw all this glistening stuff in the street. She, a Southern California woman, had never experience frosty cold winters. She got out her broom and dust pan and began to sweep up all that "broken glass" that was shining in the street. She took it inside to show her husband and the glass melted before her eyes. :)

Dear Mama_Bear,

I was enjoying the Super bowl probably as y'all are right now until my husband received this email garbage a few minutes ago. To give you a little background information, my husband is an administrator (maintains email database, provides message board and guest book, etc.) of a website that is dedicated to a certain Brigade that he served with in Vietnam.

Sender of the email is targeting a lot of the members listed in the email database. Needless to say, I cannot stand by and do nothing. Since I respect FReepers like you and a lot of others on this thread, I've decided that this is the best place to come for advice.

Other than sending him/her/it a 'fitting' email-- which I shall shortly do-- what else can I do? Any ideas or advice? I know and have verified the sender's email address, but not sure if I can post it on FR.

Thank you in advance, Mama_Bear.

(Below is its Spam email word for word that I copy/pasted with permission.)

I don't know what Jane Fonda did in Vietnam during her visit to see the P.O.W.S. in the camps, but I suspect that some of these anti-Jane anecdotes are fabricated. I do know that Jane Fonda is a Hero for nobly opposing this U.S. War of Imperialist aggression against the Vietnamese people, and that her actions helped to shorten the War, therefore saving thousands of American and Vietnamese lives in the long run.

The real traitors were the rich pigs on Wall Street and in Washington who sent tens of thousands of poor American kids to die in rice paddies so they could rip off the people of the Third World. The Vietnamese bravely fought for years against the Japanese, the French and then the Americans in a noble fight for National Independence and Ho Chi Minh was the George Washington of that Country.

The United States has invaded more countries than any other Country in history. Our government has invaded virtually every Latin American country at least once. In fact, our government is, even now, planning to invade and commit genocide on the people of Iraq, even though that country never did anything against us. We need more Jane Fonda's and less Republican rednecks. Jane, where are you? America needs you.

((end of garbage))

Well? (I want this person to taste what it's like to receive full strength FReeper wrath in return!)
