Man shouting "Save Me!" enters UN compound in Iraq
Associated Press | January 25, 2005

(Baghdad, Iraq-AP) -- An unidentified man shouting "Save Me!'' has entered the compound of U-N weapons inspectors in Baghdad.

Journalists outside the compound say a man in his 20s climbed into an inspectors' vehicle as it was about to leave from the site.

He was shouting in Arabic.

The man was taken into the compound, a hotel where more than 100 inspectors and other U-N staffers have their offices.

There's been no comment from the U-N and no explanation of the incident.

Amazing isn't it? Is there any way to combine these two threads so we don't have to keep going back and forth?

A guest on Fox News told the name of the guy who tried to defect. Anyone catch that? What's the latest on this story?

Haven't heard anything about this guy in a while. Should I assume that the people to whom the UN turned this guy over have killed him by now?

Well, Theo, the story has apparently died, and I want to know why. Who were those UN inspectors. Specifically, what nationality were they? Did we squelch this story in another attempt at coalition builing?

Iraq : 'Adnan 'Abdul Karim Enad is safe and free

He and other detainees were said to have escaped from a prison in al-Ramadi, about 80 miles from Baghdad, after it was abandoned by prison guards in mid-April.

Amnesty International has learned that 'Adnan 'Abdul Karim Enad is safe and free. He and other detainees were said to have escaped from a prison in al-Ramadi, about 80 miles from Baghdad, after it was abandoned by prison guards in mid-April.

'Adnan 'Abdul Karim Enad was detained by security personnel in Baghdad on 25 January, after forcing his way into a United Nations weapons inspectors' vehicle in an attempt to hand over documents. He was then reportedly taken to an office of Baghdad's Security Directorate before being transferred to Abu Ghraib Prison, near Baghdad, and then to al-Ramadi. He was allegedly accused of having links with the opposition through relatives living abroad. According to reports, he had been sentenced to death, though it is not known whether he faced any kind of trial.
