Amnesty International has learned that 'Adnan 'Abdul Karim Enad is safe and free. He and other detainees were said to have escaped from a prison in al-Ramadi, about 80 miles from Baghdad, after it was abandoned by prison guards in mid-April.
'Adnan 'Abdul Karim Enad was detained by security personnel in Baghdad on 25 January, after forcing his way into a United Nations weapons inspectors' vehicle in an attempt to hand over documents. He was then reportedly taken to an office of Baghdad's Security Directorate before being transferred to Abu Ghraib Prison, near Baghdad, and then to al-Ramadi. He was allegedly accused of having links with the opposition through relatives living abroad. According to reports, he had been sentenced to death, though it is not known whether he faced any kind of trial.
