(Baghdad, Iraq-AP) -- An unidentified man shouting "Save Me!'' has entered the compound of U-N weapons inspectors in Baghdad.
Journalists outside the compound say a man in his 20s climbed into an inspectors' vehicle as it was about to leave from the site.
He was shouting in Arabic.
The man was taken into the compound, a hotel where more than 100 inspectors and other U-N staffers have their offices.
There's been no comment from the U-N and no explanation of the incident.

I thought the same thing about the inspector. He looks like the guy is just wasting his time or something.

I noticed the very same thing with the news clip, it looked as if the UN guy wanted nothing to do with this possible defector. I was shocked when I saw it and thought that I must have been mistaen, interesting that you had the same take on the clip.

To my eyes that is a VERY telling picture. The UN want nothing to do with possible defectors. It does not help their plan of finding nothing. If this man was trying to defect I think that this is one of the most inhumane things I have ever seen.

mistaen=mistaken

"I can't beleive they just let this one go"I've got the info, AND the URL of this thread saved. I STRONGLY suggest we don't let this slip past. I think this newest batch of inspectors is Rittering around as much as the LAST batch was.

Gee, that's one "dynamic and effective" looking inspector (aggression is against the UN charter)

Where's the outrage? Even FOX doesn't decry how this was handled! I know, I'm flabbergasted by how nothing big is being made out of this.

Something needs to be made of this human tragedy and UN ineptitude. I wonder if he was one of the 100% unanimous votes for Saddam.

Any of yall know his name or what country he is from? (the UN guy)

The guy was clearly speaking in English. He was shouting/begging "Save me!" or "Take me!". It was plainly obvious he did not want to go with the Iraqi soldiers.
Something interesting may be starting. The momment many non-loyal Iraqi's see that the end of Saddam is near, they will try to save themselves. I am afraid it could get messy.
One or both of the guys today started a little too early. Will say alot if this continues. May move up or complicate our timetable.
I hope General Franks can handle this.....

P.S. Reminds me of the end of Nazi Germany.
All the Germans said they hated Hitler and all the French suddenly became "Resistance Fighters".
The beginning of the Axis of Weasels!

Good point. I also bookmarked this site for posterity. This story is HUGE, and remarkably underreported. Why?

The desperation and agitation are written on the poor Iraqi guy's face I agree. This is the first I saw what he looks like. He does not look like some nutcase. He appears serious, focused and desperate.
What is utterly disgusting is the way the UN inspector just sits there
He is the UN's answer to Sgt. Schultz..."I see nothing..."

"Something needs to be made of this human tragedy and UN ineptitude."
---
Judging from what we know and that picture of that totally uninterested UN inspector, I think it's actually worse: it isn't UN inaptitude, it's deliberate COLLUSION with Saddam.
The UN inspectors are determined to NOT find anything, then all of a sudden a guy shows up, with maybe a "smoking gun". Instead of jumping on it, they don't want to have anything to do with him, and can't wait to hand him over to Saddam's henchmen, after the guy is yelling "save me" and is clutching some possibly important notebooks. Nobody is that incompetent -- as I said, this is deliberate.
I agree that this shouldn't just be dropped. I wish FoxNews would follow up on it.

Go easy on the UN inspector, he's just finished a Big Mac and is on break!

Did anybody else see the article that said Iraqi officials said his notebook he was carrying was empty? In all the pictures I've seen so far, he's got the notebook up inside his jacket hanging on to it hard. Like he doesn't want anyone to take it from him.

I agree. The U.N. inspectors either side with Iraq, or are controlled by Iraq. There's no other explaination. There were cameramen all around. They got this on film. If this is how they react to someone who is apparently trying to offer information at the risk of his life, in full view of the world, they are even more corrupt than I imagined.
