I think the real reason is they, Europe, feel they will be in a better position if the US falters. They want an end of US dominance, economically, militarily, and culturally. We've been a thorn in the Elitist European side since 1776.

Good points. I think too that the Euro-trash have allowed the
Arab-trash to enter their nations in great numbers. The Arab element influence should not be under rated.

Unfortunately, unless we halt all immigration (legal and illegal) to help control our own borders, this type of arab influence will be felt here as well.

Their gutless politicians (and the eurinals who vote for them) live in fear of the violent muslim minorities living in their midst.

They think that if they stick their fingers in their ears and hum, the problem will drift away.

All these reasons, certainly. I don't think they need worry that their complicity with an evil regime will be revealed, because if they cooperated Bush is too much of a gentleman to embarrass an ally, and the liberal press would be eager to cover for these socialists.

No, the basic reason is that they have a number of very cozy business relationships with Saddam. It's very profitable, and I'm sure Saddam greases their palms with bribes as well. If the Americans go in, most of that will cease.

The party running Germany is LEftist and Socialist - in particular the Green Party, which opposes anything American ... Note that Ted Kennedy sounds no different from the Euro-weenies.

If Christian Democrats were running germany, they would be much more friendly to our policies.

why do germans allow this to happen?

they have let the media kultur degrade their ability to think responsibly. they show "independence" from american dominance by parrying our good ideas with their idiocies. That is Global Leftism for ya.

Part of it, I think, is that those nations poised to control the EU are positioning themselves to wield a similar influence in other extranational bodies such as the UN. They won't need to actually do anything in the world - their function will be to tell others what to do.

From the many Euro trash posts I have read in the past year as well as Euro types I have spoken to, I conclude that there is an openly anti Semitic culture everywhere in Europe. The US supports Israel (which is governed by the Likud at this point) and therefore Euro trashers are against the US. This is one of the factors in the equation. The main cause for the anti US sentiment is a desperate and vicious hatred for anything American - the free market materialistic culture that "derives its success on the backs of the world's victims."

The Soviet Union may have lost the Cold War but the left wing death culture lives on.

A lot of it is linked to the short-term monetary gain that both France and Germany have aquired as a result of under-the-table deals with Saddam. Both countries' current leadership also capitalizes on the ever-present anti-American sentiment that is a staple of dying cultures and loss of world importance. 50 years of socialism has also bred a dullness of mind that dominates political thought and makes true independent thinking impossible.

But I think the bigger reason is that both countries are scared crapless of the growing Islamic cultures that are breeding in their midst. The French have allowed a lot of immigration from the Arab world mostly because it offers a cheap workforce for low-end jobs. These muslims are not stupid and have organized themselves into a growing political voice. And since violence is a normal part of politics to these folks, France might just find itself on the receiving end of a 9/11-type event in the not-so-distant future.

The French are the perfect target. Their leaders and politicians are corrupt and the Iraqis have lots of money for bribes. The French have finally realized that they have very little role or clout in the new world and have opted to join the 5th Reich and, forever, in effect, give the Germans a national lewinski.

They know that nothing they do will have any long term effect on what we do or what the outcome will be and Iraq is paying large amounts to those who do it no harm and larger gifts to those who help.

I have heard from sources that the Germans sold a lot of the equipment Saddam used to make poison gas.

Bad choice, Fritz. You're ringing a historical bell, and that one involves Zyklon B.

In any event, France and Germany will be deeply embarassed by the revelations about equipment they've sold to Iraq. Unlike Britain and the USA, their defence industries are mostly partly owned by the government, in particular the French. So we can regard these sales as a deliberate extension of national policy.

Regards, Ivan

The biggest supplier of unauthorized materials to Iraq is Germany, with Siemans (from what I've read) being the largest German company. The second largest supplier is France. Our administration should go on a discreet publicity campaign about this fact.
Also, Germany and France want to have co-presidency for the EU and their greatest desire is to supplant the USA as the world's superpower with this alliance. The US dollar is faltering and the Euro is gaining...they want to keep up the momentum on that. That's how I see it.
Of course the anti-Jew and anti-Christian sentiment is part of it as well. Plus they aren't having any babies, Muslims are their largest group of immigrants and Muslims have lots of babies. And practically NO ONE goes to church there anymore, so Islam is gaining dominance.

America is the big dog at the Top of the Hill, have been for a hundred years and don't plan on leaving any time soon...

For some ridiculous reason Madame Poodle and Herr Daschund think they should somehow be sharing the Top with us.

Grrrrrr....

There are some excellent responses on this thread. I'll add another one -- the euros in question are all leftists impatient for more state control over the peoples of Europe. One way for them to acheive this quickly, is to permit the islamic terrorists to wreak havoc on their continent very extensively. Yes, it will cost them in the short run, but in the long run they will get just what they want -- permission to impose de facto dictatorship everywhere. Of course, they will allow occasional plebiscites, but there will no longer be anything even remotely like democracy in places like France and Germany. This, IMO, is what they ultimately want.

The real reason is both more boring an more alarming than you posit.

The Europeans have decided that the main lesson from the Cold War is that negotiation and treaties are the way to avoid armed conflict. In their opinion, it was European diplomats than avoided all out war with the Soviet Union. Not American arms.

Therefore, they believe European negotiators are the best way to resolve problems in the Middle East. The U. S. with it's armed forces are getting in the way of the real solution.
