Scott Ritter Speaks Out On 2001 Arrest - Offers his first public comments on controversy

ALBANY, N.Y., Jan. 22 - Until now, former U.N. weapon's inspector Scott Ritter has declined to speak about allegations he was arrested in an Internet sex sting 19 months ago. However, NewsChannel 13 reached Ritter by phone Wednesday and for the first time he discussed the arrest and the sealed court documents.

"The case was dismissed. Therefore it never happened," Ritter said Wednesday.

"I stood in a court of law, before a judge and an assistant district attorney, and they dismissed it," he added.

But the court of public opinion has a different view. The story of Ritter's arrest and the subsequent dismissal of his case first broke over the weekend and dominated headlines in the days that followed.

"I am deeply saddened [by all of the media attention]. Not by anything I've done though."

Ritter refused to speak to NewsChannel 13 on camera. When offered the chance to tell his side of the story on television, he replied, "I'm saying it now."

During the Catholic Church pedophile scandal, I heard a thousand times that pedophiles are NEVER cured. Wouldnt the theory hold true for ex-weapon inspectors as well? I still refuse to refer to him as a Marine.

I also heard that he cancelled his trip to see his uncle in Iraq because they do not have Internet access.

I didn't say it was a set up, I said his reaction sounded like that was what he was saying. However, have any police reports been released, documents telling us exactly what happened. Based on what I have read thus far and his reaction, this guy should be locked up and I want to know why he is not.

When exactly did he get caught using internet, and when did he first change his mind about Iraq? What exactly was the deal he got and who exactly were the people that gave him the deal and why? Who and how was the news released?

I have only heard bits and pieces of the story and it does not make sense to me.

Sorry if it looked like I was picking your comment to reply. It's just that I saw several people talking about this earlier and tending to make a case for a set up.

I saw your post early on this thread and jumped on it because it tended to slant toward that possibility as well.

For those who would say, or even begin to consider a set up, I merely ask if they could ever see themselves in a similar situation with similar outcome.

My personal opinion as to why he's still walking the street is that he probably has a darned good lawyer!

No problem. I have yet to talk to anyone on internet that could entice me to go meet them.

The fact that Scott showed up two times to meet minors, which is what I have read indicates he has a problem. So why is he walking free? The fact that he was so well known in 2001 which I read the year these things happened flies in the face of logic that it could be kept quite, no matter how good his lawyer is. Did he make film before or after these events? Good lawyers cost money. Who is the lawyer? Scott wasn't suppose to make money off the film, so he says.

So many questions and lack of complete information to answer questions.

If a Catholic priest did what "Tott" Ritter did,the media would be screaming from the rooftops.Bob Packwood plants a kiss on a few adult women in an elevator and he's persona non grata in the US Senate and is forced to resign in disgrace.Did Catherine Crier have any sympathy for Bob or did she save it all for "Tott"? All William Scott Ritter Jr. has to do is say the word and those records will be open. Given his performance on CNN tonight, he won't even talk about the case, prompting the usually mushy Aaron Brown to get most peeved at Ritter and told him he was "radioactive."
