USO Canteen FReeper Style ~ Military Valentines Day Project Thread 2 ~ January 22 2003
68-69TonkinGulfYatchClub and FRiends of the Canteen

Posted on 01/22/2003 5:27:01 AM PST by 68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub

The original idea about organizing a Canteen project to mail packages
to the military belongs to MoJo2001
What started out with a simple FReep mail to several people quickly became a hit.
My 2 cents was to suggest that we get this project underway
in time to get these packages to the military by Valentines Day.
I think there are many different ways to do this.
Our goal is get get packages and/or cards, letters and e-mails to the military
so thay do not feel alone or forgotten on Valentines Day.

If you have not been to the USO Canteen Post Office recently there are new links and info there.
Info on what to include in Care Packages, snail mail postcards, new e-mail links, phone cards, etc.
Several FReepers have obtained snail mail addresses for active duty military.
Some of you have family and friends serving right now.
As you can tell this project can go in many different directions.
Some of you may want to "team" up with others to send one big package.
Others may want to do this by themselves.
Some may just want to e-mail or snail mail Valentines messages.
What is needed now is to post approved snail mail addresses of military bases and/or individuals.
I propose that each Wed between now and Valentines Day the thread be used to update info and ideas.
So to qoute a great patriot of 9/11 "LETS ROLL" and get this project underway!

At the end of their first date, a young man takes the girl back to her home.
Emboldened by the night, he decides to try for that important first kiss.
With an air of confidence, he leans with his hand against the wall and,
smiling, he says to her, "Darling, how 'bout a good night kiss?"

Embarrassed, she replies, "Oh, I couldn't do that. My parents will see us!"

"Oh come on! Who's gonna see us at this hour?"

"No, please. I would just die of embarrassment if someone saw us."

"Oh come on, there's nobody around, they're all sleeping!"

"No way. It's just too risky!"

"Oh please, please, I like you so much!!"

"No. I like you too, but I just can't!"

"Oh yes you can. Please?"

"NO, no. I just can't."

"Pleeeeease?..."

Out of the blue, the porch light goes on, and the girl's sister shows up in
her pajamas, hair disheveled. In a sleepy voice the sister says: "Dad says
to go ahead and give him a kiss. Or I can do it. Or if need be, he'll come
down himself and do it. But for crying out loud tell him to take his hand
off the intercom button!"

Good evening, fatima. I'm sure Tom would be glad to send James some of his Chicagoland cold. He's been complaining all day. LOL! Way to go, fatima. Please thank James for his service to our country. We thank him for helping to protect our freedoms.

Okay - a really weird thing just happened. First, my graphic showed up. Then, POOF!! the dreaded red x.

Can anyone see it, or is my computer completely whacked?

Thank you, Radix! I'm honored, but the credit goes to Michelle. I'm just the fortunate Freeper who first posted it to the Canteen. It's a pleasure to pass it on.

Can I still be on your special list? (^;

The dreaded red x here. I checked its properties and it says tripod. I know you have tripod in your closet and I can't always see them. And most of Beth's I can't see from home. But usually tripod, geocities, and angelfire won't let you link. You can see them for a minute and then POOF! I'll go try the URL.

James and a few other are very interested in the dress Mary pics for her junior prom, they can all remember theirs and once my daughter Mary picks it ,they get a pic. They are even taking votes on the ship and the most popular color is gray or white.

That makes sense. I took a shortcut and cut and pasted directly to the Canteen rather than saving the graphic in my data storage. I wonder if Beth is doing the same? We've been trying to determine why some of her graphics don't show up.

I'll ping her to this post, and the two of us will work on fixing the problem.

I'm going to try and re-post the food graphic without taking a shortcut. Be back in a few.

Ragtime, what a terrific article you found to share with our troops and the Canteen. Michelle Malkin sure did write a wonderful letter. Thanks Michelle, for writing it, and thanks Ragtime for posting it.
