MONACO Jan. 22

An American male nurse convicted in the arson death of billionaire banker Edmond Safra escaped from prison overnight, police said Wednesday.

Ted Maher, originally of Auburn, Maine, was convicted of arson in a 1999 fire in Monaco that also killed one of Safra's other nurses, Vivian Torrente.

A "Green Beret" surrendering to the French? Is this live, or is this a Memorex copy of "Stolen Valor?"

How the hell would you know it's arbitrary in Monaco? Because its "feren" and well, they ain't 'Mercans? Have you ever been to Monaco? it's not a toilet, yaknow.

How come the Maher family did not discuss the fact that Teddy was on drugs for his "behavoural" problems before he took the Safra job?Don't you think Safra would have found another nurse if he'd known Teddy wasn't all there without his blue pills? They are the last people who should be suprised Ted did something this crazy, but it's so much easier to blame the Monagists and the widow rather than confess Ted is unstable and their darkest fears came true.

I can sympathize with that sentiment, for a while...but Maher needs medical help and not believers in his innocence. Two people are dead and a family ripped apart because Ted took a job he was unqualified to take, and HE still gets respect on this forum. This is nuts.

I don't recall any such agreement, and I don't recognize your unilateral right to silence me calling you a supporter of a killer. The end of story is that you are a deluded fool. There!

You called it 'Monaco trash" and now waive a hanky about name calling? Grab the smelling salts.

I am not impressed that a killer still has supporters on FR.What does that say about YOU?

"Nothing I or anybody else says is going to change how you feel on this"

I have been on your ping list for probably a year and this is the first time I have read that Ted confessed to setting the fire.

Will you please just tell me whether or not it is true that Ted confessed to setting the fire?

Is France better or worse than Monaco?

France has the most notoriously brutal prison system in the Western World.

The recidivism rate for French criminals is very low due the horror found in France's jails.

Certainly France has an extradition agreement with Monaco.

Maybe he can pull a Spagliari and escape again.

I wonder if they are allowed monthly whore allotments like in Holland and Scandinavia.

French prisons on the other hand are known to be pretty tuff.

It is Monaco trash. However, I have not called you a fool, even though you disagree with what I believe; I have not intimated that you support injustice and criminal behavior, although you support Monaco's unjust and mock proceedings of "justice," etc. Yes, you resort to name calling....I suggest you smell your own salts.

First off, I do not have a ping list. I think you may have me confused with someone else.

Secondly, Yes he did confess BUT, it was coerced by the Monaco gestapo which threatened him with not seeing his family again.

This was pointed out time and time again but apparently, some people are too stubborn to accept it. They are choosing to take the word of the Monaco gestapo over some freepers who have done their homework and researched this story.

You know? it does no good to address anything with you because all you're doing is resorting to name calling and insults just because people like myself are taking up for an innocent men.

I have researched this matter and I'm standing by my finding that he is innocent and if you don't like it, tough.

Obviously, you and everyone else detracting againt Ted don't know how to look at things very well like I do.

"Jail" in Monaco is like a 3 star hotel.

I do not know if this man deserves to be in jail or not.

I do know that the total loss of freedom is no picnic.?

And I would hate to see what you consider a 3 star hotel.

There really is quite a bit to read, and questionm, IF one is truly interested in taking the effort to read and believe something other than the Monaco trash; for instance, Free Ted Maher

Edmond Safra cooperated with the FBI regarding the laundering through Republic of $4.8 billion in IMF loans to Russia.

Safra was one who played his cards close to his vest; the unique transactions of Republic were known only to him, and their trail died with him.

It was considerate of him to schedule his suspicious death after his wife changed his will to her benefit. . . .

. . . and the very day her change of citizenship was finalized. . . .

He was, you know, only in Monaco to meet with John Bond of HSBC to finalize the sale of Republic which netted Lily three billion.

Lily had sent the security team to the palatial estate La Leopolda, making help quite impossible--

And how can we explain the cowardice of the Monaco police?

The first alarm went in at 4:54 a.m., yet the brave gendarmes only found the bodies at 7:45 a.m.--three hours in the heart of Monte Carlo--

And for the premier citizen.

It has been said by those close to the scene, "So much incompetence does not come cheaply."

Just as so much judicial impropriety must have come at a dear price.

Why did security chief Samuel Cohen not have keys? Because Lily had taken them we are told by a writer on the subject.

Why did police put Cohen in handcuffs when he could have saved Edmond and Vivian?

Why was the burglar alarm disconnected July 1, 1999?

Why did Lily's paid agent Sonia pencil in Ted Maher and Vivian Torrente at the last minute?

Ted drafted a letter of resignation and was returning to his family and his Columbian-Presbyterian job--why would he pull a stunt?

Ted tested negatif for drugs so why would Monaco prosecutor Daniel Serdet continue in his slander?

Why did Monaco police need to extort a false confession?

Why did Monaco authorities isolate Ted from communication about the night in question for three years?

Why did Monaco guards awaken Ted every 20 to 40 minutes every night of the ten-day trial, creating a pitiful wreck of a human?

Why did Monaco police "lose" their emergency call tape for the night of the deaths?

Why did they destroy Ted's original clothing and substitute brand-new, uncut, unstained, prohibited athletic wear?

Why did Monaco authorities snatch Ted's wife and her brother off the sidewalk and ransack their room, steal their U.S. Passports?

Why the threats on Ted's wife and children?

How came the sudden conflagration an hour after Ted was taken to the hospital?

Why did Lily pay off Vivian's husband if not simply to avoid the insurance investigation?

Why did Monaco suppress the testimony of world-class forensic DNA expert Dr. Michael J. Baden?

Why would Ted need to do a wacky stunt to get the respect from Safra he already had?

Sonia was a known problem supervisor with a dizzying turnover rate--why was she retained and bought off by Lily?

If Lily had Edmond cremated, why pretend to have a funeral with a coffin?

If Vivian died of strangulation, spattered with Edmond's blood, how came Edmond to be a red fount?

The trial was quick, but answered none of these questions.

If they catch this guy "in" europe I will be suprised.

He is already caught. The dummy called home from the hotel he was hiding in to talk to his relatives, and the French found him by merely checking phone records to see who had been making calls to certain numbers.

So much for Ted being some sort of Green Beret...he has no idea what "escape and evasion" means...
