Loitering whales: An orca breeches for air on the Hood Canal, north of Hoodsport, Wash., where marine mammal researchers tracked two groups of killer whales. According to longtime residents, orcas almost never remain in Hood Canal more than a day or two. These have already stayed two weeks.
