A former Energy Department intelligence chief charges in his new book that fired Los Alamos nuclear scientist Wen Ho Lee provided sensitive weapons data to China during unreported meetings with nuclear-weapons scientists.

The FBI, however, mishandled the counterespionage investigation of Mr. Lee because the nuclear weapons designer and his wife worked as FBI informants, according to the book by Notra Trulock, Energy intelligence director from 1994 to 1998.

If what Mr. Trulock says is true then Wen Ho Lee needs to be strung by his damn neck. That sorry sonofabitch.

One could build the best possible defenses against intercontinental ballistic missiles and miss that possibility. I think as long as there are countries out there -- and there are -- who are as clearly determined as they are and they evidence it among other things, I mentioned the amount of resources they devote to being able to attack us. We need to be thinking ahead of them. We need to be thinking out of the box. We need to remember that there was a time when we said, I believe it was March of 1962, that it was inconceivable the Soviet Union would put missiles in Cuba. I believe in the 1980s when Saudi Arabia acquired long-range ballistic missiles from the Peoples Republic of China it took us completely by surprise. Thank you Bill Clinton AND Bill Richardson

It was Clinton and Richardson that arrested Lee and said he was guilty.

Richardson stated Lee was guilty before Lee was ever even arrested.

GREAT compilation Cindy!

Thanks!

Unfortunately, this country is going to pay, and pay dearly, for those 8 years under X-42!

I thought he was working on computer codes and had nothing to do with W-88 warhead design.

First he was accused of spying for the Chinese. Next he was accused of spying for Taiwan. Later, It was revealed that he was spying for the FBI.

While he was sitting in jail, some classified tape went missing and then found behind some copy machine. Did anything come out of that event?

The whole event sounded like selective prosecution.

I don't believe in coincidence. The FBI "mishandled" the investigation. From orders on high.

Let traitor Wen Ho Lee sue Notra Trulock if he has been slandered in this book. Wanna know something?

He won't!

During the 1988 visit to Beijing, Mr. Lee met Hu Side, the head of China's program to build small nuclear warheads, in a hotel room and was asked questions about the W-88 warhead, Mr. Trulock stated.

Wanna know something? Sullivan vs. New York Times makes it almost impossible to sue for libel in any case involving a public controversy such as this. Thank you Supreme Court.

I fail to see why everyone is so ready to believe Clinton crony Bill Richardson, who announced that Wen Ho Lee was guilty before the guy was even arrested!

The implication is that he answered them; however, Mr. Trulock is VERY careful to not say that.

Looks like his 1988 meet with Hu Side was a follow up to his 1986 meets with ChiCom scientists.

Apparently, he was working for the FBI. The FBI has always resented the CIA's covert ops, and they have always tried to get into the intel business.

The way this thing played out makes me wonder if there isn't a LOT more going on here than is obvious. Wen Ho Lee and Notra Trulock are playing a double game here. Wen Ho Lee has written a book telling his side of the story; Notra Trulock has his side; and perhaps the ChiComs are starting to look at those W-88 technical materials and wonder whether they're the real deal or not.

IIRC, James Jesus Angleton, the counterintelligence guy for the CIA referred to espionage as "a wilderness of mirrors."

I thought the Chinese have miniaturized nukes based on the W88
