Grijalva invites Ashcroft to see vigilante 'justice'
ARIZONA DAILY STAR; Tuesday, January 14, 2003
U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva stepped up his campaign to crack down on vigilantes Monday by inviting Attorney General John Ashcroft to come to Southern Arizona to see the threat they pose to border security.
The Tucson Democrat told Ashcroft in a letter that the federal government's silence on the issue is "seen as giving official sanction to this racist movement, both by the perpetrators and victims of vigilante 'justice.' "
Ashcroft's voice, Grijalva added, "is needed now to make clear that private armed groups claiming law enforcement powers have no role in patrolling our border with Mexico."
Last week, shortly after he was sworn in, Grijalva called for a federal inquiry into the vigilante groups that have formed in response to the thousands of illegal immigrants who make their way across Arizona's border every year.
You said the concept wasn't real. I just proved that it was, so you now try to downplay the presented evidence. Typical, and typically lame.
Though you do not pay attention, I have already told you that one of these border looney tune militias has a newsletter previously posted on one of these never-ending threads that attacked Pope John Paul II and the Catholic Church
Once again, present proof, please - and tie it directly to the groups in question. Your word has about as much credibility here as Clinton's, and for the exact same reason.
Read the constitution. This business about borders and immigration is not a constitutional prohibition against the Mexicans entering.
Legally. LEGALLY. What part of legally do you not understand? I can only assume that you are being this dense on purpose, which only further cements my opinion of you as a completely dishonest person.
You don't get to abuse language and logic like Clinton and expect us not to respond. The only person you're impressing here is yourself...
BTW, do you think the Chivington massacre of the Cheyenne in which Chivington the militia commander ordered the summary execution of six-month old Cheyenne infants presented to him by his troopers because, as he put it: "Nits become lice" was laudable activity or real Americanism? The three sentences you quoted are three separate concepts each applying to some but not all of those traumatized along the border.
Do you deny the passionate desire of some to exclude Mexicans? Border mania is a cancer.
You tell me who has previously respected you why I am a racist.
Also tell me how you think Tancredo would do in a California primary?
Southern Poverty Law Center. You should apply, they're in constant need of people to run around calling political opponents racist without any supporting evidence...
You got it a$$-backwards Cochise. We are Americans because we embrace America, not because America embraced us. It's an ideal, and that ideal doesn't include marching in and telling the current residents "we need to make this place more like where we came from."
I welcome Mexicans like my long lost family...if they want to be American.
Actually, most folks here tend to mistrust them because they're bald-faced liars, but that's another story.
Do you deny the passionate desire of some to exclude Mexicans? Border mania is a cancer.
Some folks do feel that way. Now, show where the groups in question have made bigoted statements - or do you believe that the statements of a few whites speak for all whites?
You tell me who has previously respected you why I am a racist.
I have asked you twice to provide supporting info for your insinuations that I am a racist. You haven't responded. Don't bother with the hurt puppy act when you have been kicking dogs yourself.
Also tell me how you think Tancredo would do in a California primary?
That's not even the debate here, but nice try attempting to shift it.
Obviously, you've brainwashed her and threatened her with horrible things, you racist thug. (sarcasm, of course.)
Cripes, she helped shift MY attitude on the subject.
If your wife's Apache and Yaqui relatives had a problem with Europeans being here, it might be more understandable than European-Americans getting all worked up over Mexicans crossing over to freedom and prosperity.
How do people come here legally when it is reported that hundreds of thousands of applications to INS are stored for years at a time in Kansas warehouses? If the INS does not obey the law, what are the potential Americans to think?
Somehow, other than the Alien and Sedition Acts which destroyed the Federalist Party that enacted them, we managed without immigration laws until the building of transcontinental railroads brought many Chinese workmen to America. The same folks who were very worried about Rum, Romanism and Rebellion moved into gear and passed Chinese exclusion laws. Totally unconstitutional (See the 5th Amendment) but oh so popular come re-election time. Then, there were laws to resist other Asian immigration. Then in the 1920s, not wanting to mention Jews and Catholics as specific targets, we got immigration quotas favoring the non-Catholic portions of northwest Europe which also had few Jews. More recently, the Demonrats got the inspiration to favor third world immigration through legislation. The Republicans are having the predictable anti-immigration reaction and playing into the Demonrats hands right on schedule.
Your plans don't work. Fences can be cut and you can't afford a patrol big enough to enforce it. You will also have to put fences on the entire Canadian border and the entire Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf waterfronts. Do you have any concept of the expense. I don't speak for anyone else here but I for one have no desire to pay the taxes for a boondoggle of that size and one that would be totally ineffective in any event. Requiring local law enforcement to report "illegals" was prohibited by New York City under, not Demonrats, but under Guiliani because of the high probability of fraud by police shaking them down in return for silence. Punishing businessmen does nothing. Just how are they expected to know who is a citizen and who is not? Forgery of papaers will be a big league business. You cannot take benefits and welfare from the "illegals" under the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments as the Courts have repeatedly ruled. That, not your desire to exclude these folks, is the law and the rule of law and the constitution trumps any statute or referendum.
As to removing politicians, we have elections every year, state or local or federal. Take your best shot. Run Tommy Tancredo. Run, Tommy, Run!!!! The results will separate the GOP from the border gangs. Dubya can have his many Mexican relatives campaign against Tommy too. About two years later, people will say: There used to be this guy in Congress from Colorado who actually tried to run against Dubya. What was his name again? Whatever happened to him?
There are laws being broken. I have no desire to downplay that. Sometimes, lawbreaking is no danger to the republic but rather proof of non-tyranny. Do you think the law is being upheld by SCOTUS in favoring and allowing and encouraging the slaughter of 45 million innocent kids?
You may not personally be motivated by racism against Mexicans but if you think that it is absent from the movement with which you associate, I would like to interest you in purchasing, by quit-claim deed, a bridge connecting Brooklyn and Manhattan. Set up a toll bridge and you are set for life. Payment in small unmarked bills cash American only.
Billy the Butcher lives (Gangs of New York) now along the Mexican-American border. Why isn't there this sort of hysteria along the Canadian border where actual terrorists have entered the US?
Secondly, I have told you already that I don't collect the anti-Catholic racist drivel on those websites. I know what I have read. You can like it or lump it but you ought to stop claiming I did not respond. BTW you asked for supporting info as to the racism of the border mania websites not as to you being a racist but, never mind.
Well, if you guys think that border hysteria is the fad du jour, prove it by running Tommy Tancredo in the 2004 presidential primaries and see how Dubya's boots are made for stompin'. Don't you have confidence in little Tommy?
That's rich. You have been construing that I am a racist left and right, and that these border patrol groups are racist, without any supporting info, and then have the nerve to whine about ME purposefully misconstruing YOUR intent? BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Stop it, you're killing me!
The Republicans are having the predictable anti-immigration reaction and playing into the Demonrats hands right on schedule.
Last I checked, the GOP was doing its best to ignore the concept of illegal immigration itself. Try again.
You cannot take benefits and welfare from the "illegals" under the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments as the Courts have repeatedly ruled.
Sorry, it's more along the lines that idiot courts such as the 9th Circuit have ruled this way, and then idiot politicians try to pander to illegals. It ain't the fault of the illegals, but we still need to change the laws.
Your plans don't work. Fences can be cut and you can't afford a patrol big enough to enforce it. You will also have to put fences on the entire Canadian border and the entire Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf waterfronts. Do you have any concept of the expense.
The entire point is to make the system ductile, not brittle. So some folks will get past the fence, but fewer than now. They get caught by local police, and turned over to the INS. Or they go apply for a job, and the business won't hire them any more because they'll pay dearly for it. You won't eliminate illegal immigration. But you can put a serious damper on the current levels, and couple that with a legal change to be realistic about the labor needs we have.
Do you think the law is being upheld by SCOTUS in favoring and allowing and encouraging the slaughter of 45 million innocent kids?
That's a great example of rule of man (activist court judges) instead of rule of law. Try again.
You may not personally be motivated by racism against Mexicans but if you think that it is absent from the movement with which you associate,
You SPECIFICALLY called the border patrol groups racist. Not an entire movement, but those groups. Generally, that requires YOU to back up your assertions. You haven't done that yet. So go suck eggs.
Come close and listen.
Most of our cities are overcrowded, our schools are overcrowded, our expressways and freeways are bumber to bumber, our social services are being choked off, our GD jails are full of illegals, we have hundreds of thousands of American citizens out of work, our land fills are full, our energy resources are limited, there are only so many labor jobs left..
HELLO THERE! We don't need millions more people here, regardless of what the hell they look like.
HELLO? ANYONE HOME?
LOL!
I want to hear the description of your winning coalition of voters nationally that excludes the Mexican-American vote.
Sorry, that doesn't cut it on FR. Unsubstantiated charges are the currency of liberals, but they carry no value here - and in the age of Google searches, you should be able to run down the information quickly enough. I've done such many, many times.
BTW you asked for supporting info as to the racism of the border mania websites not as to you being a racist but, never mind.
Hardly. You said this in post #27:
If you think America depends on either keeping other people not quite like you out of it or at least upon being rude to others not like yourself, you are to be pitied but not supported.
In response to your vile insinuation, in posts #31 and #41 I specifically asked that you provide information that I believed that way or had uttered racist sentiments on FR. You can't even keep the facts on this thread straight, so why should we believe your statements about something you claimed to have read elsewhere (but cannot produce now).
