I've been reading posts by people who use the term Conservative and others who use the term Libertarian. I have a question for all FReepers, is there a difference between the two?

bummer. that one sounds familiar; guess I have just your run-of-the-mill essay on maximized personal liberty and responsibility. That Murray feller must be some kind of kook, anyways.

Great reply.

Not at all. We read it all the time. Some humanist ideologue sneers at human suffering and exclaims: "Ah, let 'em drug themselves to death for all I care, and it would help get rid of the surplus population!" Supposedly, anyone wanting to intervene in the self-destruction of another will face some sort of sanction from the Libertarian Brown Shirts: "Comrade, you are interfering in the free will choices of that addict by feeding and clothing him and stealing his poison which is killing him. You must be fined or imprisoned or both!"

That said, in my view -- based on your scores -- I would call you a libertarian (small-L) at least in the ideological sense. That's what I thought I was ... I do have somewhat more restrictive views on business than that of "full blown" Libertarians AND I absolutely do NOT believe in "open" borders ... but I am also VERY anti-WOD and VERY anti-gun control.

There are differences, mostly regarding how much a role any government should play in our lives - Local, State or Federal.
While I want to take lots of power from DC and give some power to the States many Libertarians do not any power in any Government at all. Not even for Roads or Police.
Most Libertarians are good people, and you will find that you agree with them often even if you are a die-hard GOPer.
Libertarians are not pro-drug, they are anti-government regulations.
Many Libertarians are pro-life.
My biggest issue with many of them is foreign policy, they are very isolationist. But you run into that with the Buchananites too.
I like most Libertarians and would be proud to work with them. I have also voted (L) on more than one occasion.

Bill O'Reilly is more libertarian than conservative. So is Bill Maher of Politically Correct. I think O'Reilly is a contrarian, and most of his guests take a statist viewpoint. Where he comes off as libertarian, it's because he's arguing the opposing view to a guest. Maher is nowhere near libertarian - he's simply a liberal. Maher applies the term to himself because it sounds more sophisticated, but his views say otherwise.

Personally, I think Libertarians should be shot into the cig pack and tossed out the car window.
They do nothing but spoil elections and try to hijack this conservative forum.
They never get past 1/2 of 1% of the vote. Eff em.
They should form their own forum.

We read it all the time. Some humanist ideologue sneers at human suffering and exclaims: You lie about libertarians being one thing or another and then move on to the next thing. Libertarians aren't any more humanist ideologues than Republicans are racists because of David Duke. You are a despicable liar. Does that make all Republicans despicable liars as well?

Eff em. Eff you
They should form their own forum.
When you start yours, you can set the rules. You don't get a say on this one.
To: Cultural Jihad
Are you at all familiar with Murray Rothbard's conservative libertarianism? From your posts, I would think not.

Yes, I do. I am not a hanger-on.

OK, so you don't advocate using software that is copyrighted without paying for it? OK by me if you can find people who work for free.
I know a farmer who will give you produce for free too. You musta missed it.

Drug laws do more harm than good. Repeal them. - This one is not clear, I am for regulation just as with Alcohol and Porn.
anyways here is how I came out:
Your Personal Self-Government Score is 70%.
Your Economic Self-Government Score is 100%.
I still only consider myself an Educated Conservative, I am a Independent that has worked on GOP campaigns and voted against (R)s in favor of (L)s or (I)s.

Yes, I do. I am not a hanger-on.Please explain. And then if you are in charge, explain why I am still here.
To: ThomasJefferson
Why even waste your time with CJ? I don't think there's a person on this forum who doesn't know his arguments are dishonest.
To: NittanyLion
Why even waste your time with CJ? Good question. I just hate liars.
I don't think there's a person on this forum who doesn't know his arguments are dishonest.
I think you're right. But just in case there are any newbies here,,,,,,,,:^}
To: ThomasJefferson
Please explain. And then if you are in charge, explain why I am still here. Explain what? This is a conservative forum. Why you are here is not up to me. I am simply saying that you people (slur intented) should form your own forum. That is why you people are hanger-ons. You claim to be independents, but you never do much on your own. Perhaps that is why you never get more than 1/2 of 1% of the vote.
