A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....01-11,12-03...Week in Review

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

To Our FReeper FRiends:   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our spotlight on various FReepers. We thought we'd kick back on the weekends and simply review those who've been featured during the week. If you missed seeing them and want to say hello to them now, feel free to click on the link to that particular thread. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today and tomorrow, please feel free to do that also. One of us will always be around to see the welcome mat is still out, and maybe even put fresh flowers on the table. :)

2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up.
3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit.
4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it.
5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me an FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

you let the little plane rest on the weekends, don't you?! :)

Gotta do maintenance some time. Besides, I kinda like the big one. It turns a lot of fuel into noise, though.

That pic is real world beauty, I just swiped it off the web somewhere...'Bulbs in the Nethelands' it's called, so maybe those are tulips.

There is a large field of bulb flowers called arunculas near where I work...in the spring, it becomes a great quilt of colors. There's even a 'Dutch' windmill at the Holiday Inn across from the fields...and then the Pacific across from them both...it's quite a sight.

It's quite a Saturday.

Your rocket launch picture brings to mind a true story..:))

Living at home with my parents in Melbourne, Florida in the early years of space flight enabled me to see some of the more significant ones.
For instance, the first manned ones, and Sir um - - John Glenn, etc.
Although as the crow flies, I was probably 40 miles from Cape Canaveral, it was awesome to clearly see and h-e-a-r a flight going aloft.

- Picture it being 1960, during the (not-so-)Cold War.
- Picture Maggie on a date at a drive-in theater.
- Picture the screen oriented to the north northest from the vehicle, and suddenly a huge and noisy mushroomy cloud ascending from behind and up from it!!

Picture said date from Ohio yanking open his door and pulling Maggie behind him - -
intention to push her on the ground and gallantly place himself over her body to shield it from radiation!!!

Hey - we can laugh at it now, but he had never seen a launch!!

JW, that picture you posted looks like a Dutch farm getting ready for Floriad (sp?). Is it?

Yes, a Dutch farm, according to the title (Bulbs in the Netherlands)...don't know for certain what a Floriad is, but I can guess, and it looks like that field is definitely near the peak moment.

I have a friend whose family owns a rock hut on the wind-swept coast of Holland, an hour from Amsterdam...gosh, I'd love to spend a spring and summer there...maybe some day...)

Nah, I have a feeling the Buckeyes are going to win a thriller in overtime. That might have been the best college game ever played.

Pretty - both of them, HotDog - thanks for sharing the picture! I love horses. And the plain names work the best anyway! (We had one whose registered name was "Sir Sissy" - we called him John!)

Hi, Dansy! Thanks! Saying in my most pitiful, poor me voice, "It's no trouble. Somebody had to do it." LOL! I am reminded of that commercial a few years ago for "Marshmallow Treats" - rice crispie cereal and marshmallows creme. The kids LOVE them, and "Mom" doesn't want anyone to know how easy they are to make, so she whips some up, and just before serving them, she throws some flour on her face, walks out of the kitchen carrying them on a platter, and says to her family (who are smiling and SOOOOOO appreciative of all her hard work), "It's no trouble, really." LOL!

One of the few commercials that had me roflmao....thanks for reminding me! :-)

So, before you posted this morning, did you mess your hair up, spritz your face (for perspiration) and rip one of your sleeves? LOL!!!

That's usually how I look after putting together a "Finest" thread! :-)

[Dutchess.....don't read this!!]

LOL! I think dutchess already is wondering why in the heck she agreed to this 'job' - surely not just to get her name on one of those cute doggies!

I laugh every time I think of that commercial, too! (Think maybe it's 'cause I just 'smiled' when I got all these compliments on my light, fluffy biscuits for the LONGEST time!!! Ever tried "Bis-Kits"?) :)

No, but thanks for the heads-up! LOL!

Don't laugh, but I have a knack for making Jiffy Cornbread mix look and taste like the real thing. I pre-heat a skillet in the stove, then pour the batter into the hot skillet and put it back in until it browns. Wa-Luh! Looks and tastes like "from scartch." LOL!
