A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

Good News!
We have a New Sistah! Please welcome Dutchess, who has come on board as our latest full-time Hostess. Dutchess has been one of our strongest supporters and biggest cheerleaders from the very beginning, and we can't wait to see her put her entertaining and humorous writing style to work! Can we have an "Atta-Girl" for Dutchess?!!! We are thrilled and excited!

More Good News!
We have a new "Half-Sistah"! Remember those three fun and funny threads last month that FreeTheHostage authored and/or co-authored with Mudboy for us?! We wanted more, and she's agreed to give us more -- two threads each month! We call her a "half-sistah" because she won't have to upload graphics and do the layouts and post the threads....just WRITE! We need another "Atta-Girl" here for FTH!!!! Thank you, Free!!

Not-So-Good News....
I promised Daisy we would keep this upbeat and not be sad, so you have to help me out and be happy she's taking some time for herself. Will let her tell you in her own words. : )
"Thank you Billie for giving me yet another sistah! Maybe someday you will give us another bruthah, in addition to our half-sibs JohnHuang2 and Wolfie!"
"Welcome aboard dutchess. I know you will do just great. I look forward to working with you, albeit for the next several months it will be on an irregular and infrequent basis. DearHubby has retired and we have some adventures planned in the upcoming months."
"FTH, I so enjoyed your help during the Christmas holidays with those lively and entertaining threads, and thank you for your gracious offer to write for us on a regular basis."
"I will still be lurking, though, and posting comments and threads in between our getaways. I will very much miss being a daily presence on the Finest Thread and the process of doing profiles. Although, as I said, I will be in and out, and will continue to contribute a thread as much as life and time permit."
It has been thrilling these past seven months working with some of the Finest of FR. Thanks to all of you for your great enthusiasm, cooperation and support. And thanks to our very talented Billie for making the Finest Thread the "finest thread" and for allowing me to be a part of it, both in the past and in the future."

~ Affectionately, daisyscarlett

Ok, I don't care what she says, let's have another "Atta-Girl" for Daisy!!! (You didn't really think I'd let you get away without it, did you?) : )

Love Ya, Daisy!!!

For ALL my Sistahs, Half-Sistahs, Bruthahs,
Half-Bruthahs, Cuzzins 'n Othur Kin....

1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar.
2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up.
3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit.
4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it.
5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me an FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

Thank you for the tea. Let's see, twice a month but with no graphics work :::doing calculator:: really makes me about a .362 sister. With the calendar page, that's got to be worth at least .028, bringing me to :::calculator again:: to .39. By my calculations. I've bookmarked the calendar for easy reference and will commence Monday!

I'll do anything for tea and roses! (Actually, I know we drink a lot of coffee here, but tea's my drink. I adore tea.)

Between his drills and his part time job, AND getting ready to go to college Eric doesn't have much spare time!

We got 3 or 4 inches here and it is GORGEOUS! I'm one of those weirdos who loves snow, so this winter has been fabulous, IMO!

HOWEVER, I will pray that it NOT snow on the 21st. :o)

I'm not too worried about Daisy staying away from here too long

I mean, Daisy wouldn't be HAPPY if we were totally HAPPY she was going to be a little gone from us for a spell?

It reminds me of a Frost poem, which I somewhat know, and which I think to be about a poet leaving his lover for a spell, at least mentally departing, to work on a poem. (clearing throat):

I left you in the morning
And in the morning glow
You walked a ways beside me
To make me sad to go.

But did you know me gloaming
Sad and dusty grey from roaming?
Are you sad because you know me not
Or sad because you know?

All for me and not a question
For the faded flowers gay
That would keep me from beside you
For the hours of a day?

They are yours [I think the flowers, which I think the poet has left the beloved to keep her company] and be the measure
Of my love for you to treasure,
The measure of the little while
That I've been long away.

Well, anyway, that poem says it for me. Billie says this is supposed to be a happy thread, but at 11:48 p.m. EST perhaps it's late enough to note that I bet Billie didn't try TOO hard to be happy. I know that's what we're all supposed to say. But at the end of thread, howsabout I say what I really feel: I'm happy she's getting out and about on adventure, but it would be silly to think that we're not a little sad in a don't-be-sad-too-and-we're-still-happy-for-you kinda way. I bet no one actually succeeded perfectly in that respect today. As it should be.

Ah, when, to the human heart, was it ever less than treason
To go with the drift of things and yield with a grace to reason
To bow and accept the end of a love or a season.

2 way radio is a specialized field just like the cell industry is. They could be interchangable electronics wise but the cell companies have it in their heads radio guys can't transfer into their field. DK has repaired 2 way radios, base stations, and transmitters, from tube to transistor. The latest transmitter switch is called a Trident. He went to school on that about 2 years ago.

He could do contract work as long as he doesn't need an IFR monitor..that sucker is $20,000, it's one of the main dianogistic tools he would use.

He will keep sending out resumes hoping someone will realise his 29 years of knowledge and skills beat out some snot nosed just out of engineering school kid inexperience.

Memphis is dead as a job opportunity in this field. Nextel can be thanked for that.

Your post #204 overwhemed me....Thank you so much.

RE; Calendar page....You are not limited to posting the same calendar page - in fact, my to-do list has included for some time "Look for another possible calendar page site". So if you find another one you wish to use instead, go for it! Change is good! Change is living!

"Change is good! Change is living!"

Thanks. I'll shop around. But not *all* change is good and those calendars had just the right feel, I thought, for this thread.

We may as well go patiently on with life
And look elsewhere for the shocks and changes that keep us sane.

Meekie did we miss Elvis's birthday last week?

Oh, yeah ! There was a reminder on the Canteen to me this week and I posted some Elvis stuff there. I thought I also posted it here, but may have slipped up. As soon as the weekend thread is up (I just checked and it's not yet), I've got some Elvis stuff I'll post, ok?...
