WASHINGTON, Jan. 7 Ratcheting up the debate over sport utility vehicles, new television commercials suggest that people who buy the vehicles are supporting terrorists. The commercials are so provocative that some television stations are refusing to run them.
These blithering idiots surely must be Dembutt liberals!

This will have to offend most of the 'middle of the road' people, so to speak. I think this will blow up in their faces.
To: Shermy
Reckless driving isn't limited to a specific vehicle. With the new plans any idiot can have a cell phone these days.

So anyone who buys a more larger than standard computer or widescreen T.V. is supporting terrorists, because more oil has to be used to manufacture it?
Or anyone who buys plastic throw away razors instaed of using a straight razor is supporting terrorists?
Next time the gorcery store asks you paper or plastic for shoppin bag use, be sure to choose paper, then you will only upset the tree huggers!
What a bunch of B.S.

Huffington is serious in these ads. I think it's very offensive. I stand corrected based on #13. I just assumed that nobody could possibly expect such a silly argument to be taken seriously. Oh well.

Yes, I understand completely, in the very real sense that, well, actually when I saw your post I assumed you were right too. You made perfect sense. It had to be. And then I suspiciously doublechecked just to be sure, because there does seem something unstable about Huffington. Boy, she's crazy.

"On average, SUVs consume over 6 miles per gallon more than a family station wagon."
That may be true. However, federal CAFE standards have ensured that automakers no longer offer (or at least invest in development of) large cars and wagons, which many seeking confort and carrying capacity would prefer.
The feds destroyed the station wagon.
CAFE kills thousands each year, by leading more people to buy smaller, less-safe cars. The solution is to end it.

Frankly, saying hasta la vista to my 13 mpg Navigator and hello to a 23 mpg Volvo V70 station wagon is hardly a sacrificeA Volvo. Isn't that the car of choice for spacey liberal academics?

On average, SUVs consume over 6 miles per gallon more than a family station wagon. Isn't *more* miles per gallon supposed to be a *good thing*.
$200,000 and they can't get a simple thing like that right.

Frankly, saying hasta la vista to my 13 mpg Navigator and hello to a 23 mpg Volvo V70 station wagon is hardly a sacrifice. Volvo?! only 23 mpg?!
Try an EPA Highway Mileage Estimate of 28 mpg (and 405 horsepower):
To: Shermy
They can be, but that doesn't profit an auto manufacturer, so they don't.
Reasonable mileage SUV's are available (I own one, a VUE, ~21\27 mpg, 40+ mpg version due 2005) but they either don't have the capacity or power that some people WANT. People pay for things they want, profit is not evil and its no one else's business to determine what a "fair" profit is at that.
To: Beelzebubba
You are 100% right! Most people, (except off roaders) woould be happier with a station wagon or the big cars of old. In the end though, real Americans drive what they want. Maybe there should be a list of what liberal pols and celebrities drive, and how often they are jetting from place to place. Their annual energy usage could then be compared to the rest of America. The liberals should put up, or shut up!
