DAILY NEWS ^ | 12/24/02 | HELEN KENNEDY

WASHINGTON - As nuclear tensions grew sharply yesterday, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld sent a blunt warning to Pyongyang: America can fight simultaneous wars with Iraq and North Korea. "We are capable of winning decisively in one and swiftly defeating in the case of the other," he said. "Let there be no doubt about

It must be pretty bad if you want to 'escape' to China.

I generally agree with this assessment.

We have to realize that our enemies will always win the propaganda war in the international press - we will have to settle for being feared rather than loved.

With a Chamberlain-style appeaser in Seoul, our options are limited.

You should read Michael Savage's new book. He is very clear about who the most dangerous enemy of America is.

We will never go to war against N. Korea. China will certainly join N. Korea against us. We cannot afford that. Our invasion of N. Korea will enflame the entire region and the nuclear threat against S. Korea, Japan and our own military bases in the Aelutians.

Should we conquer N. Korea without a nuclear exchange, what would be the spoils? There is no prize there.

History: When our troops crossed the 49th parallel, a million Chinese troops swooped into Korea. They remained after the cease-fire was declared.

Today: There are a number of facts that support this position. China still has diplomatic relations with N. Korea, supplies the country with food and military support. China has been the traditional route for diplomatic efforts for governments that do not have diplomatic representation inside the country. There is credible assertions that name China and Pakistan as instrumental in developing their nuclear weapons program.

As ideologically backward as N. Korea is when compared to today's China, they are still allied. China's support of N. Korea is a tribute to their status as an avatar of old-world marxism.

Actually, the way to do it would be to engage S. Korea, China and Japan to promote the cessation of nuclear development by N. Korea. The U.S. should stress to them that the last thing we really want is to commit more ground troops and other military assets to the region.

Later, quietly, we should use a S. Korean or N. Korean element to place a non-traceable explosive device to try to effect "a tragic industrial accident" which would be the result of "the ineptitude of a third-world wannabe". Let then the countries of interest, but especially S. Korea embark upon the restoration of the then devastated N. Korea and its long-suffering peoples.

I am not a doom and gloom groupie.I am a realist,I see the makings of WWIII on the horizon, maybe it is a good thing.I can not forsee the world continuing peacfully at its presant state. In my opinion we live in terror the rest of our lives or wipe out those that want to inflict terror upon us.Think about it,here it is,Christmas eve,a time to spend times with our families and at the same time think about some heathens wanting to destroy the world.I think it is time to end this terror once and for all.

I believe you are correct. However, I suspect we'll also take out that wacko leader of theirs at the same time to bring about regime change. We'll use conventional weapons but in a very heavy strike - no ground troops.

If the N Koreans retaliate by attacking S. Korea we'll intensify our air strikes and perhaps use small tactical nuclear weapons to minimize damage to S. Korea. Mr. Rumsfeld is not someone the N. Koreans want to fool with.

I dunno...
Mainland China would have more to lose by supporting NK against the US that she would ever gain.

This scenario sounds exactly correct. Iraq would have had nukes 20 years ago but for the Israeli airstrike on their bomb plant... we'll do the same for NK.

In light of our massive strength, its laughable to hear the rhetoric going on now from Iraq and NK... although of course we shouldn't be over-confident. Still Rummy is not a man to be trifled with.

China's economy is massively dependent on the USA....they simply cannot afford to go to war against us at this time.

You are most likely correct. And, anyone who has visited the docks in Seattle, Oakland, etc., will agree. They are piled high with incoming Chinese stuff.

10-4. The leadership in both of those countries is delusional. Amazing what blathering and bluster comes from them.

Our folks fully understand how irrational the N. Koreans are. They will be hit very hard and with no warning. Now Saddam's a different story. He's a coward at heart and I continue to believe he's gonna run - unless his own people kill him befroe he has a chance. Either way he is a dead man walking.
