History: When our troops crossed the 49th parallel, a million Chinese troops swooped into Korea. They remained after the cease-fire was declared.

Today: There are a number of facts that support this position. China still has diplomatic relations with N. Korea, supplies the country with food and military support. China has been the traditional route for diplomatic efforts for governments that do not have diplomatic representation inside the country. There is credible assertions that name China and Pakistan as instrumental in developing their nuclear weapons program.

As ideologically backward as N. Korea is when compared to today's China, they are still allied. China's support of N. Korea is a tribute to their status as an avatar of old-world marxism.

I dunno...
Mainland China would have more to lose by supporting NK against the US that she would ever gain.
