Not quite true. Larry Sabato at University of Virginia said on Fox News that its 90 days if Lott resigns before Dec 31. If he waits till 2003, the replacement could serve till Nov 2003. If Lott is going to resign from the Senate, he better do it this year.

Trent Lott is no hero of mine. You, on the other hand, are ripping and roaring over what you see to be the demise of the Republican leadership. I finally figured out what this "scandal" reminds of in the past.

Rememeber following the Republican victories in 1994? Newt Gingrich was teaching a course at a Georgia University, I think concerning Anthropology. CNN had cameras inside of the class-room and in one his lectures, he explained the differences between men and women by using an example concerning Africa, giraffes, and the people living there.

Well, the media went crazy with this statement. NOW and other feminist groups said he was a sexist, while several black groups said his example was bigoted. So, it seems that any mis-statement a Republican makes that violates the PC-genre, and the media will burn him or her.

Like I said, Santorum would be a good choice, but the whole thing is basically hypothetical. A LOT ot people have been trying very hard to cool this down and give Lott opportunities with which he could get out of this mess with his seat as majority leader more or less intact. Damaged, but still there.

Lott has foiled all attempts to help him. Earlier this week, I was saying with 99 percent conviction that Lott was not going ANYWHERE....not as majority leader nor as senator. His press conference wasn't all that bad, after all...but now, with his blatant pandering, I'm not so sure how this will play out.

Lott's selfimmolation is a depressing spectacle. Conservatives who criticize and condemn Lott's stupidity are not enjoying this meltdown. However, Lott's praise of Throm has been geometrically compounded by his incompetent and clueless mea culpas.

Trent Lott's fawning over Strom reinforces all of the negative sterotypes the racists leftists have painted conservatives over the past 20 years. It is akin to Jim McDermott and David Bonier going to Iraq and criticizing Bush. It reinforces all of the negative suspicions that mainstreams Americans have about the left and the use of military force.

W, Rove, the candidates and their staffs and volunteers worked their butts off to take back the Senate and set up a potential realignment in 2004. Lott has royally screwed them all.

Lott is a collossal and continuing effup. The sooner this born again affirmative action disciple get out of sight the better.

I wouldn't choose him for the job either but I don't get to vote. It's not because he is a racist but because he gives in to the RATS too often.

I still don't think he should be labeled a racist and run out of the office because someone else SAYS he is. That's WRONG especially when I consider the people who are railroading him nothing but liars and race pimps. I won't fall for the game any longer. Too many people have had to step down because THEY decided who we should have as our leaders only to have THEIR leaders stay on without even so much as a slap on the wrist.

Hillary Clinton got away with a book deal when Newt was punished for the same thing.
