At a time when bullying and teasing in schools is a growing concern for educators and parents, a new study finds that students who are gay or thought to be gay are most likely to be targets -- even more than children who are overweight or have disabilities.

When you heard about the girl in Columbine who got shot in the head because she said she believed in God did you think, "Come on. She was asking for it..."? That turned out to be a myth, though.

How it is for gay people I am sure you can say better than I can. However, heterosexuals seem to have no problem changing their mind later in life and becoming gay. Ask many crushed females whose husbands left them for men, or lesbian women with children from previous hetero relationships.
If gays want to sell the concept that you cannot change your orientation, then I think extra time and caution deciding to label oneself as "gay" is in order. ESPECIALLY when you are talking about kids who are pre age-of-consent.
I also bet that most kids being teased for being gay are not gay at all. You don't help a boy who is being called a "fag" in school by telling the kids "don't make fun of gays." That hurts the boy more. The kids can just switch to calling him a "girly boy" and then we'll have to say "don't make fun of girls." The real issue, I think, is DON'T MAKE FUN OF ANYONE. The fact that it gets manipulated into being all about gays exposes its politcal roots. I'm all for kids being nice to each other. But how we get from that to teaching the gay lifestyle is beyond me.

Why do you think it's any different for gay people? Because being heterosexual is the way everyone naturally is. Only the mentally damaged (through trauma or abuse ) become 'gay'
Homosexuality is a curable (and unfortunately contagious) disease

Children pick up from the general culture that homosexuality is something weird, different or bad, many say. It certainly has health hazards!
It certainly is weird!

I think it's terrific that in the face of all the leftist stalinist pc-ism that the kids still know enough to call a spade a spade and a gay a gay. I confess I get a kick out of it when I hear a kid say "oh, that's sooooo gay" because I know he or she isn't buying the communist party line.
Hey! It's not easy growing up in public.

"It's the influence of society or some religions," said Greg Muller, a San Jose High Academy senior who started a Gay-Straight Alliance club this year.
The above is a "Big Fat Lie". It is not a matter of religion. My son and I are both believers (born again) and my son (13 years old) is constantly picked on at school. No one hits him but they call him all sorts of names. I think it hurts me more than it hurts him.
I told him that he needed to stand up for himself and to give back what he got from his tormentors. He said that he hated bullies and if he bullied back then he became what he hates most. He's a better Christian than I am on this subject. Myself -- I'd like to knock their blocks off!

It is curious to me what interest Planned Parenthood has in the gay issue. It has nothing to do with PARENTHOOD.
I know the political activists in the schools use the "we won't do it again" tactic a lot. Psychologically it satisfies the complainer. They think "well, at least no one else will experience this." they feel they have won. But parents with more than one kid can tell you it's the same ol' same 'ol the next year. It's an effective tactic as long as you have no conscience.

To person who said those on this thread "hate gays" - I think if you understand my position you will understand the feelings of many others. I DO NOT HATE individuals who for various reasons (often broken homes, being molested as a child) identify themselves with their same-sex desires or practices. I have a close family member who suffers from such identification, and I still love her very much, talk to her on the phone, etc. DO I hate her? NO! Do I feel compassion for her? YES. Do I agree with her in her so-called "gayness"? Absolutely not.
What many people here feel is extreme antipathy for the homosexual acitvists, who want to recruit many young people into the so-called "gay lifestyle". The reasons? Homosexuals need/want many many partners as they are practically never monogamous and in fact most practice extreme promiscuity.
(Note - My husband, who lived for years in SF as a contractor, saw a lot of acivitiy in the Castro district which is a notorious homo district, and what he saw there blew his mind. Homosexual behavior is vicious, often violent, and deadly. He saw stuff like faggot parades, with men leading little boys with chains around their necks, under the NAMBLA banner.)
Plus as documented many are attracted to young boys, so they want to get them young.
Next, the homo activists do not want to be just tolerated, they want their perverse sexuality to be considered as normal and natural- or even better - as heterosexual relations, AND they want special proctection.
So yes, I HATE the homosexual agenda, and I do not hate individuals.
HATE THE SIN, NOT THE SINNER!

a new study finds that students who are gay or thought to be gay are most likely to be targets Why do we need a "study" to determine what anyone who has ever attended a public school already knows?

Telemundo!! Yeahh!! Hard to say what's better -- the News Anchors with the low-cut tops or the actresses in the Telenovellas with the short skirts!

Average kids don't want to be gay and recognize it as something sick and wrong. No amount of social engineering will change nature.

Cry me a river. Stupid mean kids will abuse any peer or below they can get away with teasing, for any reason they can invent.

Okay. That sounds reasonable enough.
To: scripter
While large numbers of students in the survey also reported harassment of kids who have disabilities, who dress differently or who are fat, 24 percent said students perceived as gay are harassed all of the time, compared with 11 percent who say fat kids are teased constantly and 6 percent who say kids with disabilities suffer constant taunts. So "homosexual" students are "harassed" while overweight students are "teased".
The article mentions kids who "dress differently" but we never see a percentage of how many of them are "teased" (certainly they aren't "harassed").
And again geeks and nerds are excluded from any discussion of classroom taunting.

"Why do we need a "study" to determine what anyone who has ever attended a public school already knows?"
Too true.
Look, in school EVERYONE gets picked on. I was picked on and bullied UNMERCIFULLY for being short.
Short, fat, gay/effeminate, holy-roller, geek, nerd -- it all gets picked on and that's just part of life. It teaches kids that the world can be a cruel place and how to fight back. I don't buy this "don't pick on anyone..." stuff -- it's like giving a passing grade to everyone so they fell good.
I think there are rare occasions where teasing and bullying do rise to the level of legal harassment, but that should be a very high threshhold.

Whatever its causes, a good case can be made that a person's sexual orientation is determined earlier rather than later. You might be surprised to learn that James Dobson of Focus on the Family agrees with you on that.

A large part of gay culture in the US entrenched in being seen as a victim.

It is curious to me what interest Planned Parenthood has in the gay issue. It has nothing to do with PARENTHOOD. All of the leftist activist groups unite on their positions. And the "Algore won" protests drew all of them out in droves.
